    @SeanyP321
Did you check your temps? that happens in any app/game?
Anyway in the worst of cases that never would cost as a new notebook.

    Motherboard ~ 160 €
    9600m GT DDR3 ~ 150 €
    E7500 ~ 100€
    Bottom Case ~ 25 €
    Heatsinks + thermal compounds ~ 35 €

Even including the motherboard, no notebook in the cheap would be as good.
Take a look at your CPU temps...
    cheers

I suggest you go to device manager and uninstall the graphics card. When done check is behaviour. If stablized, goto:
    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drive...whql=2&lang=0&orderby=version&dir=desc&os=&os[]=win7x64
    Download last version.
    Goto ctrl panel/programs...Nvidia drivers/uninstal it.
Check for registry errors with a soft like TuneUp utilities.
    Clean system.
    Install the drivers you downloaded.
    Reboot...

    zzzz zzzz zzzzz

    Hope that solve your problem

Ps. sugest you monitorize your gpu whith Gpuz before and after.

Bigbrain .. we have both installed the same card into our c90's, what driver version are you using ?

Are you saying your 9650 runs at 64C under heavy load ? - mine just about idles at that temp !

I'd really appreciate if you give any pointers on how you've achieved these temps, because I'm just about to drill the case to improve airflow over the GPU.

First, goto ctrl panel/programs...Nvidia drivers/uninstal it.
Check for registry errors with a soft like TuneUp utilities.
    Clean system.
    Goto:

    www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers?dev=&sub=&whql=2&lang=0&orderby=version&dir=desc&os=&os[]

Search the driver "not certified" by PCI/VEN info (must!)and OS
    Install the drivers you downloaded.

Goto windows update, get microsoft drivers and install them over the previous.
    Reboot...zzzz ....zzzzzzzz..zzzz
Monitor it with Gpuz (you shoul see CUDA and Phisix enabled)

    That should do.
It worked fine with me in Windows7 RC x64, but you must also mod the fan (it never turns fast, is always asleep even with heavy load). Gota find time to put pictures and how to do it.

    Good luck

thanks dude, did as you said. system seems to be running a bit smoother except I keep getting crazy static every couple of minutes. For a split second it looks like a detuned tv. Think my card is giving up. Gonna order my 770m today I think. also physx says disabled in gpu-z but is enabled in nvidia cp.

Is the fan mod hard (for those of us with only basic soldering skills?

    gpu now at 74 idle.
    cores 54/53.

    You're welcome,
Not very hard to do. Only have to be extremely careful because there are very small soldering points to do. Can't miss them.
The only disadvantage is the increasing of fan noise.
Gota find time to post the "making-off" of it with pictures and how-to.
    Regards

    @ Angel Marinov ,

    Hello,

You are the very best of all the C90S's users.
You are making the job that ASUS should have done by themself.
    Thanks alot, really thanks.

This Easter weekend I'm taking my son to a LAN party. With his team they play "Battlefield Bad Company 2".
So I have no time to study all your file before next week, and I am very impatient.

I hope you find some free time, or even a few days off because you really worked hard.

I wish you a good Easter weekend.
    Alain

guys, while Im looking at Angels upgrade, ordering various bits and planning on re-deigning my lappy....would there be anyway to cool my 7200rpm HD - or is that why everyone doesn't have em ;)

Make sure you buy MORE than 1 bit. Unless you're a super awesome machinist and have a really awesome drill press. "High-speed carbon-steel / carbide" drill bits sound cool but are standard and WILL break. Making 2 mm through holes and tapping them in 1/8" copper is not going to happen with 1 bit. Also practice tapping holes if it is your first time or you have never seen anyone do it before. If you screw up and cross-thread a hole it's game over for that hole. Also having some machine oil or "all-purpose" oil helps.

Also don't cut your hand off. I am pretty damn sure you want to use a drill-press for the holes in Angel's guide (at least that is what I used). It requires much much more precision than NW's guide. You will be in bad-shape if you drill holes with a hand drill and try to tap straight holes lol.

LOL...thanks mate, but I meant 'bits' as in 'bits of the guide coz I dont have the skill or the time to do it all' ;)

Think Im gonna find someone with a CNC. Or maybe I could do Lumenlab.com's (if you have never checked out their site have a look, its good fun. I made my own 1080p projector and sold it for quite abit of cash...back when time was a luxury I could afford) DIY CNC and then make em to order :) !!

    April 07th 2010,
    Hi everybody,

I've updated my C90S to Win 7 64bit and got a 320gb@7200rpm HDD. Video drivers are 195.62 from NVidia.
    Nothing else change.

So I perform a 3DMark06 test this morning.

Win 7 64bit is working much better than vista 32 bit, yes, sure.
But I have 7 since yesterday and I need some time to see more.

I think the C90S can't use 4gb of RAM because of the chipset limitation. And win 7 can't skip this barrier.

My 7200 HDD (Seagate 250GB Momentus 16MB cache) runs fine, sure it gets warm after prolonged use, but nothing excessive. I'm not sure whether the performance gains of a 7200 disk are noticable, but I'd recommend my disk to anyone looking to fit a new one.

Apologies for going off topic again, - I know its not a great guide but the Windows Performance Index for the Primary HD disk data transfer rate for the above 7200 disk is 5.9

I wouldn't care too much about the WPI or WEI scores even in Win 7 if I were you. Even my 128GB SSD scores 5.9 and it is very quick. Use HDtune for HDD benchmarking.

Wow it's been a while since I made a post on the forum :)

Also congrats on breaking 7K 9800xpv! I hope to follow everyone once my new GPU finally arrives :D

    HELP QUICK, :(

toaster adv me to replace MCH module, gpu heat sync and cpu all with c90P bits (have c90s). But looking at the MCH module, I don't understand how it carries heat all the way to the fan. It just stops with a bunch of spiky things (like the northbridge module). Is this right?

Any quick help would be very much appreciated as wwanna start after work.

hey.... sorry this happened. Maybe reinstall your old GPU, to isolate if the problem is with the 770m. If it boots without problems with your old GPU, the problem might unfortunately be related to the 770m.

Don't panic. Im sure there are people here who can readily help you. Ask your seller if you can ask for an exchange... Goodluck !

Hmm I wouldn't trust that link 100% either a 1GB GDDR3 4650/4670 in mxm 2.1 form doesn't exist as far as I know. I am pretty sure it is the 4650 1GB GDDR2 card. You could always try baking your 770M and then giving it another try. 8 mins at 200C worked for me and my 8600M GT and it was unused before I baked it. Just make sure you let it cool down in the oven for 30 mins afterwards before you even touch it so that all the solder can soldify once more.

    Hi all,

My C90s died a few days back so I've started hunting around and reading the posts here on NBR. I'm hugely impressed by the number and talent of people supporting the C90 on this forum. There are 99 pages on this thread alone so forgive me if I repeat an old question but here goes.

I think my GPU has died, blank screen, no post. Is there any easy way to check? aside from the obvious buy a new card? the laptop won't post even with the graphics card removed!

@King - similar to SeanyP321's question, where did you get your 4670 from? I'm tempted buy the 4650 1gig DDR3 but also doubtfull about it. I've emailed AUTechEU but getting any level of detail is not happening quick.

Anyway, hope you guys can help me out on this one!

I pulled it from a friends MSI ex625 laptop so a one off I am afraid. Going to install it this week :) got screws and bolts. All I need now is to cut the screws down a bit as they are 30mm long! The cityscape is identical to the 8600M GT so no need to change anything heatsink wise in my C90P but the backplate wont fit due to the screw apertures being much smaller.

I will post up a detailed post by the end of the week with piccies in this thread. Hopefully will have time to finish prep for my own backplate and then install by then. I expect 7500+ points at stock clocks :D

    @ Seanny

Check the mxm card thread in the acer section. There is a wealth of info in there about where to get mxm cards that do not have a locked vbios. MXM upgrade are a good start with their 4650 1GB GDDR2 card. Real world benchmarks prove this card is on par with the 9600M Gt 512mb GDDR3 card and sometimes even better due to the newer tech.

    @ Diesel

Attach an external monitor to your computer if there is no picture then your GPU is fried. I recommend baking. At the moment until I upgrade I am running on a previously dead 8600M GT. Solution I baked it in a preheated oven at 200C for 8 mins then left to cool down for 30 mins before slapping it back in the lappy. It has worked flawlessly thus far and my temps have never reached 70C. Obviously if you do it make sure to use an oven tray cover it in aluminium foil then prop the card up on 3-4 small balls of foil on the tray with the GPU die side facing down. DO NOT move the card or the tray for 30 mins after turning oven off and leave the door open so it can cool off quickly. And yup the laptop cannot post without a GPU no matter what you do as there are no integrated graphics to fall back on.

    @Diesel Monkey

Yes, man he's right, I have a 9650Gt in my c90s because the old 8600GT fried. Soon as i heard about "baking graphics" i had to try it! I've baked the 8600 for 8 min at 200ºC, taked the 9650GT out C90s, pulled 8600 in and... it WORKS again!!! Born from the dead!!!
The problem now, is that i have a useless working 8600GT :) :D

So you have a 9650, and I wonder how it works.
    Have you GDDR3 or DDR2 ?
Have you managed some 3dmark test ?

    My 4670 works !!!!

At stock clocks 675mhz core and 800mhz memory stress test does not exceed 45C and the CPU now idle's in 30's C because the fans run at full speed all the time. This is ridiculously amazing. I will post up screenshots of temps and 3Dmark06 in a bit!

edit: Did 3Dmark06 test ; 7610 all stock clocks!

    Hi king,

Your C90 at least is working again, and at full speed. I'm very happy for you.
Congrats for your 7610, perhaps you can do better soon.
Your 4670 seems to be really good.

But, your fans at full speed must be very noisy, like a jet fighter at takeoff

HWMonitor gives no temperature for your GPU ?

It is soo noisy lol. But I don't care to much yet :D The temps are so amazing. I managed 8607 points so far at stock CPU and GPU at 800 mhz and Memory at 900mhz and the temps do not exceed 61C !!! While the CPU even under stress test won't get past the same temp. I have so far tested 950mhz memory and it is stable. I am going to push further and see if I can make 9500 points in 3Dmark06

Yeah Hw monitor does not report GPU temps only Gpu-z does. It gives both die temp and memory temp which is cool though. Although it reports the shader temp to be -163C lol

Anyways once I have found the max stable clocks or I get scared to go any further I am going to make a new thread with all the results :)

For now my I score 4563 in 3dmark 6 with defaults, in part because of low CPU - E2160. Run only 3dMark test graphics and achieve 18,62 average fps.
An E6600 CPU is on the way. When it comes i will run 3dMark again.
    For now is poor.
Ahh... my 9650GT is DDR-II with 45ºC idle 70ºC full -186.31 (best result, last version drivers give artifacts on screen)
It´s time to think about on a HD4670
    Greetings

well, hold on to your horses, i may just have some very incredible news for the c90. i'm currently testing some very interesting hardware in my old lappy, and so far it's booting, but it's still not getting past the bios. i wanted to post it and reveal it right away this morning, but i put the car in front of the horse, so i ended up editing my post to remove it. it wouldn't feel right to post it until i make it work...

    i'll give you a hint.

something that we gave up on.

mxm III cards? Please let us know :p

Lol seany these fans are so noisy and I can't use it in public places any more. I still need a fan mod to bring the noise down when I don't need it but sure it means I can push the hardware to the max I think I have hit the max clocks on the card, 850mhz core is not stable and 1000mhz is not stable either so I won't squeeze many more mhz out of it oh well I will have to settle for 9300 :D

Atvaark - you have overcome the limitations of the chipset and got 8gb of ram AND you have MXM III and a quadcore and you have wired your fans to run off the gpu temps vs the cpu???? No? Well I look forward to your announcement with just as much anticipation ;) got a refund on my 9600/770. Gonna keep baking this one til I feel the direction is right!

p.s KING, be proud of your fans!!!! I used to be able to go in to overclock mode on turbo and they'd just kick in. t'was my party piece!!! For whatever reason it doesnt happen any more (I think the new TG/win 7 does not respond to hardware in same way.

Agreed seany I was checking things off the list that it could be :D I am pretty sure a mxm III card won't fit though as the extra length would get in the way of the CPU module and unlocking the chipset might almost be impossible. Perhaps he is trying out some conroe quads such as the Q6600 and such.

As for my fans I love em but it is kinda annoying that I can't hear people calling me unless they are in the same room :D

    Hi,

    So do I.
But I think unlocking the chipset memory limitation could be possible. A long time ago, I used a bios moddified by WIM'S BIOS . They had found how to pass trough a capacity limitation of the HDD in a old chipset.
I asked them about the C90S, but I got no answer.

I asked also SPEEDFAN to have this soft working on C90S => no answer.

    @+ ;)

alright. my project is quite a big hurdle, so i'll need help.

is anyone able to make me a full Angel Marinov Mod? with screws and every little bit needed, besides the paste, which i have plenty of. i'm willing to pay at least 100 $ for it. i don't have the tools or expertise to do it myself. i'm thinking that my project is slowed by overheating issues for now...

another hint. it's actually 2 things that we gave up on in combination. i needed to find a 180watts power supply to get the laptop started. 120w doesn't work.
still not past the bios screen. i think a bios mod might be required to make it all work as well, but i'm really scared of bricking the whole thing.
