    Hey folks,
just some offtopic here. First I just got an XPS M1730 (very on the cheap) and now I would sell my C90S, with all the pain from my heart...I enjoyed the notebook and sharing our ideas here, thank you all.

Second place, some weeks ago I asked a web store for 4650/70 DDR3 modules, and they told me in this month or so they are providing them. They told me don't broadcast it, but I'm just posting here where no one can hear us...lol.
There aren't many mxm stores, so you should know wich store I mean.

    @noteb
Try decrasing the shader clock. I lately spected some blackscreens in my c90s and managed by decrasing shaders.

    Cheers!!

    Hi phoenon,

    Don't worry, that's life.
    Enjoy your XPS.
I wonder what copper mod you'll make to fresh it ? I still remember this on the C90S. :notworthy: :notworthy:

I think I am ready to upgrade my 8600M GT to the 9600M GT on my C90S. Does anybody still sell the GPU heatsink?

    Thanks in advance.

little news here, nibitor 5.6 has been sent to me by email from mavke due to all my previous donations. even though i sent him the gt130M's bios at least 5 times and i know a few of you did the same, i find it not surprising that there is still no official support for it. it's a good thing i learned how to manually modify the clock settings from the hex source, huh? guess others will have to wait another 3 months to perhaps hope there is eventual support for it. until then, if you get the card, send me a tell and i'll mod the vbios myself for you.

    Hi,

    @ patrickgerry2,

If you have a handsaw you can cut a piece of copper. No machine-tool is required.
Then with a metal file you adjust, if needed, the shape to be as close as possible of the chips, so you can use all the 4 screws.
Then you have four holes to drill. Put your 9600M on the copper, and you mark the location of the holes with a soft pencil.

I made mine almost like that, here is a picture at this point :

Don't worry, it's not difficult to do this. And then you'll say "I made this by myself".

But if you have machine tools, you may follow Angel Marinov.

    Enjoy your C90S.

Thanks 9800, unfortunately I am not handy when it comes to cutting metal or wood. I would buy one from you if you are willing to make one.

    Hi Patrick,

    I've no more copper left.
But I've in mind to make phoenon's mod (see above). I don't kmow when.
So perthaps I have a copper heatsprteader to sell when ...

But you should try by yourself.
Before cutting a piece of copper you might try by cutting a small piece of wood.
So you have your opinion if you can, or you can't. But you can.

I don't remember what is wrong with the C90P cpu's radiator to fit on C90S .
Please, could you tell me more about ?

Dude you should NOT put holes in your cover because the air circulation is affected.

Holes are made to get the circulation going on top of other components too...

If you drill a bigger one on top of the card you will get lower temps to your VGA but the other parts of the laptop will heat up.

    Think about this.

The problem is the C90P doesn't have a separate northbridge heatsink anymore (cooled passively on the mothboard, GPU heatsink now fills entire gap) so the CPU heatsink does not have space for the C90S northbridge heatpipe to pass through it. Basically there is added fins surface area which blocks that area so one would have to cut it down or mod the northbridge heatpipe to connect it elsewhere. Consequently there is no point in using the C90P heatsink as modded it would be less effective than the stock aluminium C90S one.

    I'm not agree.
You can improve your airflow, since the original design isn't perfect. Anyway in the C90S the GPU is the worst cooled part. You always can check HWMonitor temps. All we have the mod have no Temp. issues.
But you all are free for take the way you want.

PS@9800xpv - for my M1730 I wont mod the graphics at all since they max 85ºC OCed at 630 / 940 / 1600 but the CPU MUST be moded...lol. It max over 96ºC at @3,4 and 1,35v. under stress test...
    Cheers.

Lol nah I am talking about the CPU heatsink and why it won' fit. It was a long explanation but then it isn't easy to explain. Have another read :D I actually did use the C90P GPU heatsink after modding that :) but the CPU heatsink had to be mutilated due to the reasons I explained in my post above.

I am sad Phoenon that you left us but happy you found a good deal the M1730 is a decent beast! Please let us know your modding efforts!!

    Hi,

Does someone know if C90S's heat-pipes, or C90P's ones , are solid 100 % copper, or hollow?

Here is the rom file from my 9600M GT.

well now I'm thinking to keep the C90S, because I badflashed my BIOS, I think it was fault of pendrive with DOS boot sys, but it seems to lose power, and I was restoring the BIOS for sell the notebook with original BIOS bootlogos. I remember this happened the first time I flashed my BIOS with the mod for E7500(same pendrive), but I could manage to restore from ALT+F2 mode, but then the screen came on(blank), now just CD drive works, but ALT+F2 method does not.

Then I will contact ASUS but I think I would replace the mobo(150$ on ebay). In that case I'm keeping the notebook.

For the XPS I will start this week. Removing PhysX PPU. And taking a look for the CPU cooling system.
    Cheers

    Thanks man,
yeah I already knew but there's always kind when others try to help out. The main thing is that it seems the bootblock is fu@#ed. And in that case there's no much to do, replacing the BIOS chip is not an option for me since it's soldered, so the option is a new mobo. I not even trust ASUS, because they will probably do the same.
    Thank you again!!

I already tried, but nothing...well CD reads for a while but since screen is blank, I don't know where is exactly the point. I also typed "update" and pressed enter *lol...nothing at all, seems to be dead. I think I should purchase a new mobo before euro drops it's value, I found a rev 3.0g. like mine, and it's over 150$ ~ 120€...
    thank you for your efforts!
    edit
just ordered the mobo, I hope I can update the BIOS trought ALT+F2, since I have no longer a "valid" processor for update the BIOS by AFUDOS. I'll keep in touch.
**now I know I never could love the m1730 as I did the C90. I removed AGEIA PHYSX, and I had to almost full dissassembly the notebook...you have to full dissassembly for CPU access...sight, and even remove keyboard for install a simple mini pcie card...now I got 14700 3dmarks06 and 11500 3dmarks vantage :)

    Hi,

I bought mine used from HK, although the seller claimed it was a new one, and after discussion and claim he sold me a second card at half price. This seller as no more 9600 in this time. :(
Did you check on ebay with "9600m mxm", like that ?
Try to buy one with samsung memory, as NW. Many 9600 are with quimonda memory.
You may also buy a quatro 770M, same GPU as 9600. Just have a look here, and toaster_54 has such this video card.

    Enjoy the C90S,

Till this moment, I thought that only samsung chips could go like that : 9600M@650/1700/950 , mine same as NW.

It just seems like everytime I buy samsung ram, the EEPROM is locked and the ram doesn't want to go as high as hynix and other good chips.

With the chips on my old 9800m GS (samsung) they went to 980 (which I thought was pretty good).

But that's just my experience with samsung, maybe others have had better luck.

I think hynix are the best (with my old desktop cards, the hynix chips went high).

    Hi,
I'm from France and my video card 8600M GT in my my C90S just went down after only 3 month the warranty expired !!!
I'd like to also upgrade to the 9650M GT that I found at the following link:
NVIDIA GeForce 9650M GT - Carte graphique - Carte graphique - Achat et vente de composants informatique neufs et d'occasion sur PriceMinister.
    I couldn't find the 9600M GT one.
I'd like to follow the Nightwalker's tutorial but I can't see the pictures. I think it'll be a lot easier with them.
So is there any possibility I can have them ?
    Thanks in advance.

Sounds scary, my warranty will expire in 1 month.

I suggest you to avoid buying on priceminister where you will pay about 60€ more than the normal prices.

You should take it from ebay.

Here are some interesting links :

    - 9650GT (compatible with Asus / Acer)
nVidia GeForce 9650M GT 1GB DDR2 MXM II VGA Asus Acer en vente sur eBay.fr (fin le 17-juin-10 10:31:16 Paris)

    - 9600GT (with Acer Bios)
Nvidia MXM II Graphics Card GeForce 9600M GT 512MB DDR3 en vente sur eBay.fr (fin le 15-juin-10 09:47:23 Paris)

I am still thinking about buying one of them but kind of full of doubts concerning the compatibility of the 9600GT with Acer bios.
Seller said that bios may need to be changed.

Does anyone tried this Acer version ?

    Have all a nice weekend.
    Jerome.

I have the acer version in my MSI GT627.
I don't think you can chance the BIOS. The BIOS is specific for the card.

Moral : How would I use a proxy ? I'm using the computer from my workplace where there is some restriction, it is maybe the reason. But I don't have any choice since my laptop is down.
It'll be nice if one of you save the pictures and send them to me by email.
Jsengir : thanks a lot for the links. How come that the 9600 is more expensive than the 9650 one ?
Has someone successfuly installed the 9650M GT on the C90s ?

I wish I could install the 9600GT without any bios flashing or hardware modding.

Memory seems to be Hynix, which is different from the post I read before from the guys here (samsung or an other one) and the seller just told to me that flashing could be needed but not sure.

I could put the 9650 but 9600 is the best choice to get more FPS when playing recents games.

If someone tried that 9600 from ebay, that would be perfect to give a feedback here.

    Well I will try someday......someday......someday (echo) :D

Moral, thank you for your help but Rapidshare is one of the site I can't access from here.
Can't you put it in this site like NightWalker did with C90S-9600MGT.zip file at the end of his tutorial ?

    You're welcome !

The 9600 has DDR3 which means that it will be faster but the 9650 has a little bit faster GPU but DDR2.
Which means that the 9600 is much better for gamers but both of them will be better that the 8600GT aka thermic powerplant.

I think I'll order the 9650M GT. It seems from the seller that it'll come with the asus bios. So no need of flashing I guess.

I've just noticed that you're selling a 9600M GT MXM card.

PM me for more info on that.
