Hello,
Yes, finding those 4 little screws may be difficult.
I got mine at a watchmaker (watch repairing, horloger en Françe), you also have to search at model shops (aéromodélisme, trains miniature, bateaux, en France) ...
At ASUS_Parts_Europe, I wonder if those screws could fit, they seem the right ones, to be confirmed http://www.asusparts.eu/product_info.php?cPath=67674_70812_70813_70847_70875&products_id=1557
At ASUS_Parts_America : no screws

Sorry if my translation French to English is a bit uncertain... -
The C90 is not too high now ? Is C90 going on to be easy to use ?
Does it stay where you put it, or does it slip down, a little ... ?

It sits fine. For even better support you could put something underneath the flappy part of the cryo so it can support the front of your laptop but not essential.
Obviously I would only do this for benchmarks when I push the card and CPU to max or game with those OC's. Without them I don't bother using the Cryo. -
Thanks, I read many reviews of the CRYO LX, but most of them aren't made with a powerfull notebook.
What about t°C of the HDD ?
It's difficult to find a store which sell it in France, I must see in UK, Belgium, Germany, etc.
Nice shopping list, that's all for the C90P ?
Myself I'm thinking hard about W7 64bit ...

Going to be the most powerful 15" laptop in terms of price to performance ratio.
Yes I am cheap
The cryo was quite hard to find here too and quite pricey. -

Does anyone have any idea if the 130m GT would work?
-
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
It might but only if you can find one of those babies in mxm 2 form which might be difficult. I believe the GT130M is more commonly found in DDR2 form however so it might be better to get the 9600M GT DDR3. Asus did replace a C90S owners 8600M GT with a 9650M GT DDR2 which is almost identical to the GT130M DDR2 card.
If you have found a reseller that is selling the GT130M please share away -
Got a question.. Are the C90s fan at the back suppose to rotate regardless of temperature?
My fans seem to have stopped working.. Not sure if it's my reinstall problem when I took it apart to spray paint.
Anyone have a big picture of the fan wire module around the motherboard area?
I looked through the disassembly guide and the wire is Black <<< and White Downwards.
Still got nothing.
Thanks in advanced.
With no fan.. I am getting max temp 50 Cpu and 110 Gpu.. under a Cooling pad.
hopefully it will be better with my fans running again...
Never mind they kind of started working again.
55 CPU and 85 GPU max in NFS Carbon. Vent off, no cooling pad tho. -

Just browsed forums for potential upgrades as I resurrected the original 8600m gt of my c90s already by baking it. So I'm kinda getting ruthless/desperate enough to do experiments *g*
So far I found the GT 130m and GT 240m could be possible options worth a try... but for the latter one im not sure yet if its really available in the compatible MXMII standard and not this new mxm 3.0...
What price do they sell the GT 130m for at Zepto? -
An update on temperature- With a DIY cooler, my 9600 is running 43* idle and 95 under full load (L4D), now without any stuttering or pausing as before. 3DMark doesnt even heat it up beyond 85 taking it through its paces.
New 3DMark scores of 5263 with baseline 500/800/1250. I will OC higher once I get my power supply in.
I'm still without a 120w supply, but it's in stock and on its way. Overall, I am pleased with these results of the card. I am looking into a more portable way to keep the system cool now. -

That is very interesting foxstick! When you get it could you take a picture of it and post it up as I want to be sure it will fit the heatsink. The C90P heatsink has been designed to cover every part of the 8600M GT meaning cityscape has to be almost identical
Also I think zepto hates me haha as I returned the 9650M because it didn't work and the 9600M because it was faulty! Oh well I will just get a friend to buy it for me
-
hello everyone
i've got a big problemi bought a asus c90s last year and my graphic card (8600m gt) is dead since 6 mounths so 2 weeks ago i bought a new card ( 9600m gt) and my screener stay black my laptop works well exept my screener so please i need somebody who had upgrade his c90s with a 9600m gt to explain me how he did
thanks guys

So far have you followed the instructions set out by nightwalker at the start of this thread: Made the copper heatsink and loaded the bios he has attached? Did you only recently upgrade to the 9600M GT?
-
yeah everything's good i followed the instructions and when i turn on my laptop nothing's happenning even the bios doesn't load, my screen stay black.
But i don't understand what i have to do with the BIOS
Have i to upgrade it or something?
Thanks for your help -
9600m gt installed and working. thanks Mightylobo for sending me a premade copper heatsink. only had to gather the heatpads and a few screws, tucked everything in and it works. one weird thing however. i did not need to do the video rom flashing for everything to work properly. how can i make sure if it's using all it's power again? because the games i play have already gotten quite an improvement with this card. i am using the windows 7 rc.
-
Atvaark, if you use the CPU-Z program under the sensors tab, you should see the current voltage level of the card. At idle it should be at 169. Under the load from a 3D game, it should jump up to 500. Is that what is happening?
-
Hey Atvaark where did you purchase your 9600m gt?
-
-
I finally have the money, now I just need a card. If anyone can help that would be awsome. Ive e-mailed zepto 3 times, no one has gotten back to me.
Thanks! -
i bought the card from zepto.(sales zeptousa com)
you know what to insert where.
and for the cpuz settings, i can't get a reading. that's why i was asking how to check it...
I've also started to get a random lock up problem. I'm pretty sure it's related to overheating video memory. maybe i got some bad quality thermal pads...anyone can link me an appropriate ebay seller for those? i just grabbed one at random...
i got a 2mm thick pad. should it be thicker? -
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
Just don't return 2 cards back to them in a row or they will hate you. Guess who did just that haha!
-
why did you return the cards? o and is the c90P worth it?
Also Atvaark how much did zepto charge you? I just want to see if our quotes match up thanks -
the 9600 costs 169$, the 9650 costs 199 and the gt130m costs 249.
yeah, they have it in stock as well. -
Anyone have any idea if we can ever get a gt130 to work in the C90S? I dont know how much longer people will be trying new stuff with the C90.
Just got an E7500 Wolfsdale, 3GB of mem and a new 320GB 7200 rpm HD today so im going to try to load the whole system from scratch and load 64bit vista instead of 32 bit. Should be a busy weekend, we will see.
Still trying to make a decision on the GPU. Anyone have any idea if we can ever get a gt130 to work in the C90S? I dont know how much longer people will be trying new stuff with the C90 and want to see if anyone is working on this.
Thanks guys! -
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
It hasn't been tried yet so we need someone to test it. If you want you can buy it and try it out. Just return it to zepto if you have trouble. I managed to get the 9650M GT DDR3 card working but couldn't find a way to get the clocks to run full speed even when following nightwalkers guide. Nightwalker mentioned he had a plan to get round the problems I had but never back to NBR since then.
-
I am not computer savvy at all so I deff could not get it working. I tried sending nightwalker a PM but I guess hes not on here at all anymore. man a GT130 in a c90 would be awsome but maybe ill just settle for the 9600
-
the only reason i didn't try ordering the gt130 is because
1) didn't have that option when i ordered the card and
2) i'm afraid that would mean needing another kind of modified heatsink to slap on it...unless the one i got for the 9600 would fit?
*another thing. i was able to order the 9600 by email, but i got curious and noticed that there was no live chat as you mentioned on their site... -
I did not see an option for live chat so I took it as making a phone call which you could also consider live chat. I finally got a hold of them on thursday by phone and they said someone would be e-mailing me. Im still waiting to see if they actually do this (Pain in my butt). So until they do get back to me I will be trying to put in my new HD, CPU and Mem so we will see how she runs in Company Of Heroes after that.
How much better are games with the 9600 Art? -
So with above settings I got 5880 to 3dmark06, instead of 5348.
Then I've tried NightWalker's settings => 6229. That's true this 9600M runs rather high in oc.
But there's still an t° issue, as the GPU climb up to 104°C.
So I've to hurry to drill holes in the back plate I've also got.
In any way, my aim to get 6000 or more is achieved.
NightWalker seems to be out of NBR, but thanks to him to have open the way to follow.

Hey,
Im just about to get in touch with zepto (as soon as i can reach someone via live chat) and as no-one else seems to try, I wanna dare and get the gt 130m...
I just got one question for the moment as im making preparations, getting screws, some copper... - NightWalker says in his guide that it is important to get the 120 watt adapter... but why is that so?
If the new graphics card doesnt exceed the need for energy more than the electric heating ive got inside my notebook right now the 90 watt should also do it for the new card, or am I missing sth? -
Hi everyone,
I've finally performed a 3dmark06 test without issue.
[email protected],
9600M GT 512Mb DDR3@650/1700/950
My C90S with this settings got 6763.
Here is a screen-shot :
I won't go higher in any setting, it's enough for me.
Enjoy your C90S.

Ooooh....Zepto's live chat is on their international site...
would have been useful for me about 3 months ago. but i hope this will be for people in need of a card soon.
when you get on their main site, just choose the zepto international link on the right instead of your country. the live chat's on the bottom left of their page.
on another note, good luck with the gt 130m! if you make it work, I'm switching right away. -

Just imagine what a OC GT130M DDR3 card might doI think that plus the Q7600 might give the C90S even higher scores haha
-
With the same settings on the 9600, NightWalker got 6387, but his E6700 was @ 2.9GHz, my E7500 is running @ 3.2GHz.
NightWalker's t°C were also rather high, even if he didn't say how much exactly.
Now I know what my C90S is able to do, I think I'll reduce oc of the 9600.
Does anyone else try a 9600 in his C90S ?
That should be nice to know how it performs a 3dmark06 test.

Hello,
I still have 4 more heatsinks if anyone needs to buy one.
Thanks -
Yes here!
Id like to buy one from you but it appears i cant send you PM's yet...
I know its not good to leave an email on a public forum but i got one extra for these purposes^^
would be great if you could contact me on

I assume you are gonna try the GT130M upgrade ? If it works I will most certainly follow in your footsteps at some point
-
As I said i will try... but I dont have the Card yet so I also have no idea about the necessary modifications.
So i thought better to have two heatsinks to try with... bigger chance I save some time and crafting work
But have you guys with a 9600m gt all bought a 120 watt adapter or does it also work with the 90 watt one?
Im a lil bit reluctant of getting one from asus... ^^
And another thing:
Which size screws did you use for the 9600m gt? just in case i could use the Heatsink from this guide... noticed it never says which width is needed... -
Hi,
For those who ask about 90 or 120 ac power, just have a look here :
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4114174&postcount=46
About little screws, here is a link, choose M2x6 or M2x8.

It is a French site, so search for same in your country.

Thanks very much 9800xpv - that's all I needed
bien à toi -
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
I highly recommend getting the 120W adaptor. The 90W is already underpowered with the C90S equipped with a DDR3 8600M GT.
-
i've managed to get a hold of a zepto salesman on the phone and had a conversation with him about the gt 130m. according to him, the custom heatsink for the 9600m gt should fit without any trouble, as the configuration of the chips on the card is exactly the same. since i have the extra money available, I've decided to order one as well. I'm sure I'll need everyone's help for the vbios modification if it all works. so kaliki won't be alone in his crusade.
if it all works well, i'll put my 9600m gt for sale. only about a 3 weeks of use and i didn't overclock it. (in fact i made absolutely no vbios modification either.) -
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
Very interesting. This very day I tried to ring zepto sales to ask them to send my photos of the card so I could find out what the card cityscape looked like. How can you be sure though that the salesman doesn't just want a quick sale lol has he seen this thread and the heatsink? Annoylingly my heatsink also differs from the C90S in that there is only one part not two parts to the heatsink and its all copper but it fashioned to fit a 8600M GT perfectly so the GT130M wouldn't fit...maybe I could get a heatsink from you then drill 3 holes exactly where they are needed though my current heatsink and see if the sandwiched heatsinks will still allow the fins to fit in place as the thing will be risen a couple millimetres.
Would you be able to confirm Atvaark if this is possible mod for me to fit your heatsink onto mine as you seem more technically minded than meI could post pics of the heatsink.
-
You guys might want to start a new thread on the 130m if this seems viable. What is the price difference between the two cards?
-
Greetings to everyone in this thread!
First I want to say thank you, NightWalker! You did that what Asus had supposed to do. Thank you, guys for sharing your good and bad experience here. I am grateful to all of you because my Asus C90S is alive again.
I would like also to share my experience with Asus C90S too and some thoughts about hardware reliability and related manufacture’s support.
Q? Is this equation is true? Asus C90S + NVidia 8600M = TROUBLES
A. For me definitely YES.
Asus - Bad cooling design
Nvidia – Bad chips design
Q? Is the video adapter in Asus C90S is upgradable at this moment?
A. Yes, from Asus and only 8600M at price around $150.
Q? Can you send your failed video adapter to Asus for repairing?
A. No. It’s Asus policy. They want the entire unit (C90S).
Q? Is my 8600M will die?
A. The correct question is “When …”. In my case 2 years after the purchase.
Q? Is NVidia / Asus will replace defective video card with reliable one?
A. Am I crazy?
Q? What about Apple and 8600M problem?
A. Apple + NVidia 8600M = Resolved Problems
Q? Is there someone who can help me?
A. Yes, read this thread from the beginning.
The good companies must be honest with its clients. When someone makes a mistake it’s a good practice to admit the problem first.
Next is to do the best to fix it and after that to ask for an apology.
In my case Asus & NVidia are quiet.
Thank you, Asus for the “Asus C90S”.
Thank you, NVidia for 8600M.
I’m not happy with my choice of Asus C90S. I’m very disappointed from Asus & NVidia, from a lack of attitude to their products in the context of Asus C90S. It’s a good example how to lose the trust of a customer as me. -
The heatsink of your C90P is different from that of the C90S, but I wonder if it could fit on a 9600M without heat spreader ?
Please could you have a look at it, that should be very interesting, I think ?
It should completely cover the 9600M, it's all copper made, it has the form of the chips, so it would be useless to cut, or just a very little.
@+ -
King of Interns Simply a laptop enthusiast
Hey nah I tried the heatsink with both the 9600M GT and the 9650M GT and neither fitted as the chips were placed differently on those cards than the 8600M GT. Out of those cards the 9650M GT came closest to fitting but I kinda wrecked the C90P heatsink that I bought and modified for my old C90S while trying. BTW to get the C90P heatsink to fit the C90S you have to cut half the fins off as in the C90P the fins have the entire left portion of the fans bay to themselves, the southbridge (or whatever it is called) has a passive heatsink under the GPU in the C90P.
I am hoping I can connect the C90P heatsink to the modified 9600M GT heatsink designed for the C90S. It should only need three holes drilled if I remember correctly as the lower part of the old C90S heatsink and therefore the modified one also had three additional screw holes to connect to each other.
I really do want photos of the GT130M however as then I would be able to conclusively know if it will fit or not. It might be worthwhile buying a spare and cutting it down to size if it almost fits....
Here is a picture of the C90P GPU heatsink from an earlier post when I put one into my C90S. I have drawn around the "problem area" with the 9xxxM GPU chips. That area could simply be cut off to fit the new GPU's...Attached Files:
