    Hi there,

I'm really sorry if this isn't the first time this question is getting posted. I searched a few topics and the forum but wasn't able to find my answer. So please forgive me if this is getting annoying for you guys and refer me to the topic where I can find my answer.

Ok here we go: I have an Asus M50Vm and want to do a fresh clean install of Vista. I'm gonna use an Vista disc of my own, so no recovery dramas whatsoever. I have a disc of Asus filled with all the drivers, but I choose to install my drivers manually, so I have the latest drivers. Where do I start after Vista is installed? In which order do I need to install the drivers?

I'm not a complete noob, but I'm certainly not a nerd ;) so thanks for all the help guys!

    Regards

there are no newer drivers available other then a modded vga driver and new bios. my advice is use the recovery partition. it goes much quicker. press f9 while it is posting repeatedly, that allows you to access the hidden partition

You can find the latest drivers here:
    http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?model=M50Vm&os=25&SLanguage=en-us

    Intel Inf update:
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProductID=2991&DwnldID=16023&strOSs=150&OSFullName=Windows%20Vista*%2064&lang=eng

Most people have stopped using modded .inf files from laptopvideo2go which is what the above poster was referring to. The new official NVIDIA drivers are here:
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_notebook_winvista64_179.28_beta.html

The best order to do it in is, lowest level stuff first: ATK drivers and then intel Inf update, then nvidia, then whatever order you feel like. If you're not on the latest BIOS do that before you reinstall windows.

these are all things that can be installed after the fact. The simplest, fastest and best route is to use the recovery partition. If you really want to (i wouldnt) you can install newer drivers if any exist after.

Yeah, but that isn't what the OP asked:

Plus, installing old drivers and upgrading is less safe than just going with the new ones from the get-go.

Can someone tell me why people stopped using modded INF files and stuff? Cause I tried to find the drivers on the nVidia site, but guess what? I got the message 'File not found' (check: http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/179.28/179.28_notebook_winvista_64bit_beta.exe). So I did used the modded INF file, cause I didn't had another option.

I didn't check my BIOS though, can I update this later and why should someone update his BIOS?

I installed the drivers in this order:
    *Chipset (from the Asus website
    *Graphics (from laptopvideo2go)
    *Sound (from the Asus website)
    *LAN (from the Asus website)
*Asus Wireless Console 2 (from the drivers CD-ROM)
*BIOS Flash Utility (from the drivers CD-ROM)

After this the Device Manager only has an ! at the fingerprint sensor, but I'm can't be bothered by that, cause I never use it.

Anything I'm missing? How about that shutterlag problem? Do I need to install something for that?

Oh and thanks for the help! Fast answers are always nice ;) Thanks guys!

Nvidia recently unified their notebook drivers, so that is why ppl stopped using the modded inf from laptopvideo2go. Nvidia's FTP and HTTP download servers are down at the moment. Updating your BIOS is *usually* a good idea for a number of reasons. It can be updated whenever, but is best to do first since some drivers rely on specific BIOS revisions. Here's E.B.E.'s extensive guide:

I'd take to the owner's lounge for your last question:

@ALLurGroceries: Thanks for the explanation. Quick question: can I use that link you gave me for the Intel drivers and install this over the once I installed from the Asus site? I don't see an reason why not, but let me know please :)

I will check that topic for the shutter lag problem.

@GenTechPC: Thanks for the Wireless Console 3, I will give it a try! Where can I find the changelog?

Rarely will you ever get a changelog for application updates, they give cryptic notes for BIOS revisions, and sometimes for drivers. It'd be a miracle to find a changelog for the wireless console app. You'd be better off searching for it in the forums here to try and find changes without just using it.

And yeah, you can at any time install updated Intel drivers over your existing ones. They have a tendency to get rid of annoying low level problems so checking every so often for new ones on Intel downloadcenter is good too. But I did that already for you this time ;)

I was merely wondering why I should use Wireless Console 3 instead of 2, hence the reason I was asking for that changelog. But don't bother with it ;)

Thanks for doing the research for me ;)
