Hi,
I recently purchased a used ASUS UX31E-DH72. Everything appeared to be fully functional except for the sleep function. The laptop appears to go to sleep, but the power button light is still lit, thus making it impossible for the laptop to wake up. It appears that the laptop can never fully sleep/hibernate, as some hardware problem is preventing it from doing so. I also noticed that the laptop sometimes does not restart successfully: it shuts down, but never starts again. Lastly, I noticed that the laptop takes a long time to restart after changing the BIOS and selecting "Save and Exit." These problems persisted from day one, and still plagued my laptop even after a full system recovery and after a clean install from a generic Windows 7 disc (and after installing all drivers/Instant On).
The only way to make the laptop respond again is to hold the power button for 5 seconds to force a shut down, and then start Windows again (creating the message: Windows did not shut down correctly).
The same issue exists for the hibernate function (the laptop appears to hibernate, but the power button light is indefinitely lit), except that after I hold down the power button for 5 seconds to force shut down, and then turn on the laptop again, the laptop correctly resumes from hibernation. (This is because hibernation can resume even after a power outage).
I suspect this may be a motherboard issue.
Can anybody please shed some light on my problems?
Thanks in advance.

Hello my name is Jeffrey and I work for ASUS Customer Loyalty Team
Seems like you will have to send the unit in for service. You said you purchased this used when did you purchase it and did you purchase it from ebay or was it a refurbished model.
Please email me at [email protected] with C1042-177 in the subject line.
What is your serial number so I can look to see if your unit is still under warranty. -
Thanks for your concern, but I've already sent the laptop in for repair.
