I recently purchased a faulty p7805u. and after trying to deal with gateway support I returned and ordered a g50vt-x5.

There are a few upgrades (hardware wise) I'd like to perform. And I was wondering if anyone had any product suggestions based on their knowledge or experience.

    1. Slot load dvd-rw. Ive broken a few trays on notebooks, and its aesthetically pleasing

    2. Internal bluetooth. the stock card is the 5100. Does the 5300+ come with bluetooth? I didnt google very hard

    3. Internal cooling fans. Has anyone found the need to replace the fans?

    4. SSD. Leaning towards the g. skill falcon 128gb atm. Might wait for price to drop just a bit

Or if you have any other mod suggestions, hard or soft, please let me know

    1. I don't think anyone on the forum has tried replacing their optical drive with a slot loading one, but I don't see any problems in terms of compatibility. Make sure you find one that is 12.7mm SATA interface.

    2. The Intel 5300 wifi card does not include BT. You will need to purchase a separate BT module and cable.

    3. There's no need to replace the internal fan.

    4. Any 2.5" SATA SSD hard drive will work with the G50Vt.

While it will be relatively easy to swap it in, you will have to mod the tray cover to allow for the slot loading.

You can always not use the cover, but since you mentioned aesthetics, I doubt that would be the route you would take.

I really do not see the point of having 8gigs atm. 4GB's is the best choice, and a CPU upgrade is what you should be aiming to do. I would buy a T9600, (or better, depending on how much you want to spend on the CPU).

Ill probably be sticking with the p7450 atm. I'd like to see how much I can OC and undervolt it. hopefully around the 2.4ghz/1v range
