Hi everyone,
I am once again playing with the performance of my new G50. I was able to get raid going correctly (I installed a second drive and enabled raid). However, Express Gate is not happy. I am getting a message that states something to the effect of express gate not being installed properly. Based on my research, there a lots of people stating that Express Gate is not compatible with raid. If this is true, how do I disable Express Gate? I don't understand how the laptop can be compatible with raid, yet Express Gate isn't. Wouldn't it have been easier to only allow one drive so that Express Gate works all the time (still wouldn't work with modes not enhanced, but you get my point)?
Thanks,
Gabe
P.S. - Reinstalling Express Gate Utility does not work.

Express gate will not work with raid 0 it says right in the manual. I installed it after setting up raid and have not tried it to know if it actually works because I am pretty sure it doesn't.

Do you miss not having express gate and will it come back if u disable raid?

I never used it so I wont miss it and yes all you have to do is undo raid and reinstall the express gate. Its right on the drivers disk or also on asus download page.

Hi,
Thanks for all the responses. Unfortunately, I'm a big fan of Raid, so I won't be letting that go any time soon. Disabling Raid will make the computer unbootable. It's not easy to go backwards when you've taken a giant leap in the direction of Raid. Also, I would have to completely restore it (without Raid) to get express gate working again. My main point is that Raid shouldn't be an option if express gate won't work with it. It's either that, or include the ability to disable express gate.

do you think asus will patch this later on(if possible?)
-
I hope so. This is the first time I've ever had anything instant on. Express Gate impressed me. I'd hate to lose it completely after a raid install (which is where I'm at now). Maybe a BIOS update will resolve it.

Keep in mind Express Gate is still in it's infancy. There are obviously bound to be a few hiccups and things that need additional polish. I'm confident that this issue, among others, will be one day resolved.

What about this, install a lightweight Linux based distro (which is what expressGate is anyway) onto a USB stick, and boot from that for a 'close enough' instant on experience? OR once you have your RAID setup, set a partition for the above lightweight distro to boot from, I dont know but you may be able to set the current button that does expressgate to boot to that partition?
Try slax.org for starters. I havn't used expressgate on my G71v (UK model) as i dual boot to ubuntu anyway (ubuntu has a far quicker boot time than vista) -
I quite agree with the message above. And also with SLAX as a starting point.

Hi,
i got a question about the Raid in the G50 (before i'm going buying it).
Does Asus build in a Raid-Hardware-Controller or is it only per software (Yeah, i head about some stuff like that)? Because i would like to install Ubuntu and Vista (or XP) on the G50. But when its onla a softwarebased-Raid-Controller there will be a lot of problems.
I understanded, that essexboyracer has a Raid-0 System (or haven't you?) and installed Vista and Ubuntu. That means to me the G70 does have a Raid-Hardware-Controller but what about the G50 ?
I hope, you can help me.. -
Hello, I just wanted to tell all of you out there that have ASUS G50'S with RAID 0 you can use ExpressGate. What you have to do is upgrade it to version V1.0.2.0. I have Vista 64-bit and I'm running ExpressGate with a RAID 0 and WiFi WPA2 PSK AES perfectly. My notebook is a G50VT-X2. Just go to ASUS support website and type ExpressGate in the search bar then download version V1.0.2.0 and install it. I actually have a dual-boot RAID 0 so I installed it on my default OS and it works. Thank you.

BankaiMaster08,
Thanks for the info. ExpressGate is very much useable now with this version. -
Thank you for this update, expressgate and explressgate hacking really interest me right now.

Nope. Doesn't work at all. Same error messages and, yes, I did a complete uninstall of the previous version.

It works for me and I have Raid 0, I have a G50Vt-A2
Verified and mess with it a bit. Then I went back to gaming hehe. -
Anyone else with RAID 0 got this new version working?
Anyone else with RAID 0 still getting same error message as before? -
See above.
