So I just got this notebook 2 days ago, and yesterday I shut down with no problem at all from the Asus Express Gate. Today, when I tried to load up Vista(the page with the green bar going right repetitively), it takes like FOREVER!!!!! All I did on this notebook so far was: installing and playing CoD:WaW, CS:S, go on the internet, install Bios 1501(Asus Live Update), and using the Express Gate. May someone help me?

    How long is forever?

A minute? Ten minutes? An hour?

Be more specific. Also, is there any difference in speed after booting?

Probably installing updates, especially if you've only used the laptop a few times since you bought it.

If you want a HUGE performance increase, install the Windows 7 RC (if it's still up onthe Microsoft site). If not, there are other ways to get a copy.

ughhh like for 30 minutes and then i gave up. But for some reason I run the express gate just fine....i think its something to do with the Vista OS.

So it hangs trying to load Vista?

Can you enter through safe mode?

If you can't enter through safe mode, then you may have to do a repair installation with your Vista disc.

ExpressGate loads up because it's kind of like a "pre" OS to whatever your main OS is.

Probably gonna need to do a repair install like Tev recommended.

It'll ask you whether or not you want to repair, format, etc..

    Choose repair.

You really should have gotten a hold of RC7 <_<.

Get a hold of Seven build 7600.16385 and keep rearming it until Seven goes retail in October.

There's a new build out? Haven't even checked.

Is it worth upgrading Build 7100 to it?

Yes. It is most definately worth the upgrade from 7100 to 7600. Microsoft saved the best for last and implemented all the performance updates at the last minute to steal the wallets of many potential buyers.

    Ugh.

Can you still run an update install or am I going to have to back everything up and do a clean install?

That's annoying. I'm not even going to worry about it. The benchmark difference can't be that high.

If bigger numbers that do nothing for you in the practical world are more important to you, then I'm not going to force you.

It'd work even better if it were Windows 7.
