I was considering getting the Z71V and the only real factor that is deterring me is the weight / size. More the size, it just seems very bulky. Other than that it sounds like a amazing machine. I have had a Dell 8200 for a while and I dont think i could bear to carry something that big and heavy. I understand the Z71V is much much lighter... but that it is actually larger size wise. Can anybody compare these two laptops? Thanks!

It depends why you want a laptop .

If you want a portable to carry around, then go for 14 or 13 inch ones.

If you want DTR and play latest games then z71v rocks [8D]

Im looking for a fairly portable comp that has a decent battery life and performance. Im not looking for a crazy gaming comp, but with decent graphics for graphics manipulation. Ex, photoshop... primiere. Etc... So any advice would be great. I also looked at the W3V but heat and the latchless lid is turning me off. More the heat. I dont want that to be even a slight issue as there is no return policy and I heat would definately piss me off. I also looked at the dell D610 but the crappy build quality of dell and the problems with the sound card turned me off. Well any advice and comparision to 8200 would be great! Thanks!

    Well,

It is 'adequately' portable, and I prefer a fully speced lappy.

    Check my specs [ ;)]

    Cheers

The Z71V is just too big in my opinion. Its 14" x 10.75" x 1.38" which is bigger than the dell's dimentions which was already cumbersome... other than that its sweet! Its 0 problem with heat is a big thing and the sound / video card is great. Lapboy how do you find portability with the Z71V?

Umm, the Z70V is not much smaller than the Z71V. It weighs a bit less, but overall it's still a 15.4" widescreen laptop. Does a quarter inch in any given dimension make that much of a difference to you?

The wieght and build makes it better... the loss of a pound makes it slighly better and the size to me is less important that weight to a certain extent. and it is fractionally smaller... dunno seems nicer... would like to see some reviews though. The M6Ns did get good reviews so based on that it seems good. Any other advice or other models to look at from other manufacturers? Thanks!

It is also carbon fiber (Z70) vs plastic (Z71).
