    Hello:

It's been a while for me (z70v, it was a bit big and heavy)... i've been very happy in os x on a first gen white macbook (build quality is another issue, but support was excellent) for the last 3-4 years.

However, I miss be able to play spelunky without having to launch a VM, which is ridiculous if you think about it...

The UL80 comes highly recommended but it feels like there will be a refresh coming, also waiting for macbook pro refresh.

Basically, I think, I want something like the UL80 with nvidia optimus... is this going to be a long wait? Anything else you knowledgeable people recommend?

    Thanks!

I have a MBP. I just run it in bootcamp/win7. But that's because I never use OS X anymore.

Also getting an Asus soon, and totally pumped for it ;) muscle > style

ASUS UL80JT should be around soon im guessing, along with the UL30JT and UL50JT.

The current UL80VT is essentially a nicer version of a MBP 13" with switchable video currently out ( and has kicked many of my MBP's out of my kit as the battery life is superior ... among other things )

HP's "ENVY" series look like total Mac rip-off's, from what I heard they preform quite well. Worth a look?

I believe Hp's Envy line are Quanta as ODM, atleast any of the ones I dismantled had Quanta markings on the interiors

well, the hp envy looks fine, but the price point is out of whack. if i'm going to spend that much, i'd buy a macbook from apple!!!

here's to hoping that the UL80JT is under 1000$ and comes out within a month or two...

spelunky and those "indie games that only run on windows", here i come! ;)

    thanks for all the replies!

Anytime, and hey if it works for you grab a UL80VT on sale, the bloody things are almost as fast as a current MBP15", and hey guess what have all the ports we like too like HDMI !

Most of it depends on what all you want to do with the machine

Well I am a retailler here in Canada but will not reccomend myself here on the forums as I think it is inappropriate. If you can tell me your location I know of a few Brick and mortar stores as well as online shops that handle ASUS products.

    http://www.b-com.ca
    http://www.memoryexpress.com
    http://www.ncix.com/

http://canadacomputers.com I have not dealt with them at all but a few other forum members have and say they are reputable.

if you have more questions feel free to ask, and in a few more posts you will be able to send PM's and I always respond .. sometimes slowly as im not on all the time
