This software caused alot of G73JH users to have lockups resulting in a hard shutdown. Up until recently it was believed that to rectify this lockup problem uninstalling the Creative Software was the only solution.
The Creative Software is the only REAL software that comes pre-installed that allows full control of the subwoofers base levels.
Many Asus G73JH models only come with a hidden partion "F9" as the only means to recover this software.
That's why I am asking here.
There is reason to believe that there is a work around to this problem by installing the updated Realtek drivers from the Realtek site.

I have a friend with an A1, but he's in Vegas for 2 weeks with his drivers disc.
So for the sake of those that miss their G73JH's subwoofer can someone here please upload the Creative Software and post a link, so we that have had this issue can test this new method to see if this issue has been resolved.
Asus does not have this software available for download on their website. I have tried to call and get this software, only to be told that not all G73JH's come with this software or the sub.....and that the sub and software is a Bestbuy exclusive....lol
+1 rep for anyone who can help with obtaining the Creative Software for the G73.

If anyone has a site I can upload the Creative Drivers too I will gladly do it.
I did a fresh install of Win7 and installed the newest Realtek drivers and the Creative software without a hiccup. I can confirm that the Creative Drivers and Steam are playing well with each other (for me at least). I did not install the Power4 software though. -

Can you please upload the Creative Software to megaupload.com and PM me so I can get it asap. Thank you +1 rep!! -
What exactly is the "problem" some people are seeing with Steam & the Creative Software? Is it something I can test easily or more of a random thing that shows up occasionally? I haven't used Steam much since I got my G73, but I have never had any issues with my limited use.

1. Go into the Creative software and enable Bass Boost. Set it to 7db.
2. Go to start>search bar>Ease of Access...then click on an option.
3. Open Steam up and start a game.
4. Repeat step 2.
If your G73 hasn't locked up after up to an hour your good. -
I've have been considering uploading the entire Driver and Utility disc as two archives that contain one ISO image. I need some information before I attempt to do this. First is it against the NBR rules. For the answer to that question, I have sent a PM.
The other question that has prevent me from doing this is whether the Driver and Utility disc is tied to the serial number of the G73.
To answer that question, what I need is a hash check from someone that has the Driver and Utility disc. Post your MD5 and if my MD5 matches two others who have the disc and I get a green light, I will make the Driver and Utility disc available for everyone. -
Seeing as I didn't get a Driver/Utility disc with my G73 (05), does anyone know whether ASUS would send me or sell me one.
Thanks!
Edit: Any news on the Creative Drivers/Software? -

+1 rep anyway
Thank you to everyone here....the problem is solved now. -
I guess I was under the false impression the disc was wanted. I'll put that energy into something else.

Thanks. -
This gives me a hard lockup upon booting windows. After disabling the creative panel startup all is well. Any suggestions?

I tried this solution, but unfortunately I'm experiencing the same issues. Thankfully I had created a manual restore point before making any changes, so a quick system restore sorted out everything.
In my case, I installed the Creative software first, and then updated the Realtek drivers.
I will however not be trying to reinstall the Creative software anymore. There is definitely a conflict somewhere, and the sound I'm getting without Creative is totally acceptable to me (better than any other laptop I've owned). -
I've had the newest realtek driver since the beginning (2.47). Then I installed this creative driver yesterday. When I disable the panels loaded by creative upon startup everything is well though, although I cannot be sure that the subwoofer is working.
-
Strange, I take it that you guys had un-installed the Creative package at some point?
In my case, I had cleaned off the bloat I didn't want, tried to install steam and got the freeze. Did some googling and troubleshooting. On a hunch, I downloaded and installed the realtek driver on top of what was installed by asus. Rebooted, started steam, no freeze! -
I did a fresh install of Win7. Then installed newest Realtek drivers 2.47. Next was Steam and lastly was Creative Drivers. I did NOT intall Power4Gear. I play L4D2 and BFBC2 and have had 0 hiccups thus far.

The subwoofer is probably wired into the stereo out like every other 2.1 system ever.
Tone Generator Software Download
Generate a 100Hz tone and check your sub (hint: it works fine)
Edit: I just installed creative and if I turn on bass boost and run steam it instantly locks up. -
Damn, I wonder what did I do that was so different. Gonna have to find a video cam and make a youtube vid before someone thinks I'm pulling their chain.
-
I'm running 2.47 like you, and I installed it after an RTM windows 7 install. Then today I tried installing the creative driver which resulted in the lockups with bass boost so I removed it.
Just a note that the realtek enhancements try to make the bass sound louder by lowering the volume whenever there is a low freq noise. It annoys me to no end so I disabled the enhancements in the windows audio control.
I don't know if creative does that. (My desktop X-Fi can, but it's disabled for good reason) -
good lord, that low-freq compression was going to be the death of me soon. -
I downloaded the tone generator and I'm not using the Creative software. I can hear it from the subwoofer and only the subwoofer, it's not playing on the speakers.
Cool stuff, at least know for sure it's working. -
Well that, and playing anything with a beat you could tell that the sub-woofer was working. Those little speakers under the display just don't have the ummph.

Hmm, do you own a G73JH? Have you personally installed the software mentioned in the links you have provided? Do you know that there is NO Creative hardware in the G73, right?

Well, answering one of three questions doesn't give me much hope. Especially when you read other things the package also says:
This software/driver pack is unofficial, not supported by Creative Labs.
Use it at your own risk.
Supports any model of the following Sound Blaster cards (based on Emu10kx DSP):
- Audigy
- Audigy 2
- Audigy 2 ZS
- Audigy 4
Which as I pointed out, the G73 doesn't have, which is why answering the first two questions is more important than answering the third. -
upon further research i found out that the creative software is not free and cost money
if you can check if you got the serial key on it you may want to give it a shot, i also found there is a Realtek X-Fi drivers which essentially modded driver that improves sound(thats what the author claims)
Realtek X-Fi mod 2.21 Vista/Win 7
Creative X-Fi MB(Software)
Source: Realtek R2.16 X-Fi mod driver - techPowerUp! Forums
ps: make sure you UNINSTALL Realtek and creative and reboot the system before installation to prevent issues -
Regarding the "This software/driver pack is unofficial, not supported by Creative Labs. Use it at your own risk." This is simply a disclaimer and to prevent anyone from attacking the author of the drivers when something goes wrong. It's just the same as making an overclocking guide and saying "I'm not responsible/liable for any damage, etc."
@ raclimja
I don't think you should be posting and giving advise regarding the G73JH when you personally don't have one. It would be detrimental to uninformed G73JH owners when you're posting information that may not work with the G73. If they happen to install these and have further problems.. well.. you will be the one to blame. -
i tried the new post i made. it works on every computer with realtek audio
-
@bignasty
Yes, I'm quite familiar with warnings, I use them myself. I thought it wise to stress that point by duplicating it here.
@raclimja
Pardon me if I seem skeptical, but I'm still not seeing, "I own a G73JH and I have personally installed this software on my G73JH without issues" or something to that effect. I guess we'll let your Device Manager image speak for itself.
++Can someone PLEASE post Creative Sound Blaster software??++
