I had problems with my M68NE the temperature gets higher then 100 degrees when running on high performance. I've trief many things even flashing to the newest firmware from the German site. I now can normaly work at game speed but the temperature doesn't come lower then 74 degress with Wlan on, is this normal ??

I'd touch the bottom of your notebook to make sure..
if you burn yourself, I'd say get it replaced []
Surely, +90-100 degrees would hurt you

You get this temp on battery mode???
The temps on different battery mides are diferent...try "gaming" option and tell us whats your temp....
Mine gets 90º easily, but there are people who says this is a reading temp mistake, and not a hardware problem. ;-)

Thanks for the advice but....
Last night i was playing a 3d game on batteries in gaming mode, and in a scene where there was a lot of action, suddenly the icon of power gear (in the upper left corner on the screen)began to flash and show different modes and change the brightness of the screen [xx(]. THis happened for a few seconds (and the game didnt run right in those seconds), i run out the program and looked temps, and saw that my asusprobe marked a 90º degrees all time!!!
After this, i repeated the same thing and happened again the same!!! PowerGear icon flashing and changing to inferior modes!!!!
this was very annoying to me, because the notebook is 11 days old and was so frustrating that i decide to upgrade the BIOS to the 0207 Version.
NOw im really happy with this BIOS. My max temp readings now are 68º when 90º before!!! In the same game in the same scene, and nothing about power gear icon flashing and not getting higher tempes, even touching it!!! The notebook is quite colder in touch.
You know what happened? Now i really now that THERE WAS a SYSTEM OVERHEATING, and this is the cause (i think) of system inestability. Have you heard any case like this??? PLease answer, this is very important for me. -
I've called Asus and explained the problem. The laptop has been earlier to them for repair and they replaced the mainboard after that no problems for 2 months. yesterday i've send my laptop again on advise of the helpdesk consultant. This was because the fan also makes a loud noise when the temperature reaches above 100 degrees. But indeed the bottom does not feel so warm so it propaply is something with a sensor or something else. I hope they will fix it good this time.

I think there is one thing that is clear, which is that every notebook behaves differently with each bios. One reason could be the cpu, I'm running a older banis, while most others seem to be on the newer dothan. Thus 205 was great for me but bad for others like auroas, but perhaps the later 206/207 is better for the newer dothan cpus? 207 was ok on mine but there were to many side effects, fan said it was on but wasn't, constant acpiec errors etc.
Best advice I can give it to try all the bios's and find one that suits, apart from that get the m/b replaced !

I thought that if your working on office or something like that, the temps will never get high enough to start the 4000 rpm fan mode, so the noise wont anoy you [
]
-
Yes, the fan is always on, and it has three levels of rpm:
1.3000 rpm is almost like you cant hear anything...you only know that the fan is working on because Asus Probe says it or because you put your hand in the air exit of the notebook.
2.3600 rpm, is louder than 3000 and you can hear it, but quiet silent.
3.4000 rpm, is only when needed ,and it sounds like in 0205 or 0206 versions, this is a bit louder than 3600 (may be i dont know if this can anoy you if you are working on office or something like that), you hear it, but even that way, its much more quiet then any standard P4 PC that you can buy. That is noise, not the 400 rpm from this computer. I use this notebook for gaming and video edition, so i almost can hear anything about fun noise, and im really happy with temps now (i know my notebook is cool and works fine and will do for a long long time in low temps...so i hope please!) -
Hello!

after installing this bios from asus usa site, my asus probe doesn't report as high temperture as the germany site one. The 207 bios from germany gave me around 72c running on Super performance and 66c for gaming on asus power4gear with normal load. After changing to the usa version,it gives me around 66c on super performance and 62c on gaming mode. I'm very satisfying with the usa version than the germany version.

Cheerio
So I auditioned version bios from american web how here write and I have to rist that result is all fours! Again ventilator goes when ASUS Probe shows temperature 39°C and revolves and turns as if had 70°C in version Bios 205! I don't know then what you bio smoothing - out, but I'm leaving version 206, the goes well done

I already two days use version 206 and I satisfied! Ventilator functions just as has, processor is OK, temperature moves among 50 - 55°C in gaming mod. These piece of knowledge are watched at work in AutoCAD and Word, excel.

New version on Asus website, not in germany or taiwan...this is the same version, if you choose the official link (not the german ftp). And i have to say that in my computer this is the best version. The fan is not on till the cpu gets 40´s, and after that, the fan doesnt stop, but runs in a 3000 rpm and this is not audible. If you make it work harder (gaming), then it will start to 3600 rpm and that makes noise, but quiet silent.
One thing is sure, your notebooks will be colder, will work better, and your notebooks and battery life will be longer.
I can say just try it, and if you arent happy, try to an older version. -
I have found an interesting software that it says it can control fans of any centrino notebook.
I have not tried it yet
Here it is:
http://www.pbus-167.com/sam_p35c.htm
It's made for Samsung P35 but it says it works with other centrinos.
I can only try it tomorrow.
Anyone care to try?
-
If your up to it then sure give it ago, although I'm surprised that you would need this utility for a PM based machine, this would be much more useful for a P4 or AMD based cpu.
After all the prob's that I have self inflicted myself with due to tinkering with my laptop, I'm gonna leave it be, its working well and I'm happy with that !

I upgraded from 205 to 207 today, and I'm very well satisfied with the new fan settings they've implemented in the new one. Before, with 205, the fan started/stopped at these temps (approx) (when using AsusProbe 2.11):
3000 rpm: Start at 50 degrees, stop at 45
3600 rpm: Start at 60, stop at 50 (annoying, quite loud noise)
4000 rpm: Start at 80, stop at 70 (sometimes when gaming)
The problem with the old settings was that the fan went at 3000 rpm almost all the time, even in battery mode. Also, when starting 3600 rpm, it often took a lot of time before it went down to 3000 again. Now, after some testing I think the fan is calibrated like this:
3300 (?) (something between 3000 and 3600): Start at 55, stop at 50. AsusProbe reads 3000, but it's not the same noise as the 3000 I had before.
3600 rpm: Start at 70, stop at 65
4000 rpm: Has not tested yet.
But the point is that it now runs without fan, or with very low rpms below 50, and won't start the annoying 3600 before 70 degrees, which for me is a huge improvement. [8D]

Me beg of sb. for version 207 turns ventilator even if AsusProbe shows 39°C and far from it thrust forth, therefore use version 206. Here's temperature according to ASUSProbe such:
off - 52°C and less
3000rpm - 53 - 70°C
4000rpm - 70 and more °C
3600 I will never nolook that it would reflect

I guess these BIOSes do perform differently under different M6 notebooks... how odd.
Mine doesn't seem to like 0207 very much

Hey all
I just purchased an M6BNe from geared2play.com. I downloaded and tried the samsung utility. I have bios 205. I cant really see any improvement over using Power4gear. I reduced my voltages by about .1 V and it was the same temperature. The ATI overclock functions dont seem to work either. Maybe it need some chip set support or something??
Cheers,
J

I find that with this BIOS, if I turn it on for the first time...then the fan will stay on once the CPU temp reaches 45. It will stay at ~3600 RPM...
however, if I reboot (and all subsequent reboots), then fan will be much quieter and will work (in my opinion) how it's SUPPOSED to run (fan turns on/off according to CPU temp)
It sucks having to reboot everytime I turn on the comp... but I suppose this is better than keeping my CPU at ~65 degrees (as it is with 0206 and earlier BIOSes).

Hey all
I have tried the Beta 7 version of the samsung utility ( after spending 30 minutes figuring out the german forum) and it seems to actually work much better than the 1.5 version. My temps using ac mode and power4gear in game mode are around 45 to 50 with my cpu set at 600 Mhz at .748 Volts. The fan control is still very random at best. The preset temp values dont work for me at least. This is also with my ATI 9700 OC'ed to 440/240. In performance mode, using Prime95 to stress the system, my max temp was 75 at 3000 RPM fan mode, 1800 Mhz at 1.196 V. Hopefully, the writer of this program refines it a bit more and i think it will be a nice utility to keep the Asus nice and cool.[8D]
Cheers,
J
