I see on places like Xoticpc they offer the 1 Year "No Dead Pixel" Guarantee for an additional $99. Would it be recommended to purchase that additional coverage? What's the likelihood of encountering a dead pixel somewhere down the road?

I think it's fairly rare to get a dead pixel along the road, unless the screen has some sort of trauma event. If you get a screen without a dead pixel to begin with, you most likely should be fine. Asus has a stock warranty regarding bright pixels as well.

Yes typically dead pixels come at the start. I personally would never spend money on something like that.
