    Hi

I am about to buy one of the new Pine Trail models, and am having a hard time figuring out the differences.

I don't want one of the designer 1008P models, so I have narrowed it down to the 1001P or 1005PE.

From my reading, the standard 1005PE has a 48Wh battery, 820.11n, no bluetooth, and the 1001PE has a 44Wh battery, 802.11g with Bluetooth.

Do they both have the same chassis?

The 1001P is available with XP (smaller 160gb HDD), matte screen and to be honest, seems better value. I fail to see why the 1005PE is a much better model. If they both are the same size and weight, I think the 1001P is a much better proposition.

    Am I missing something?

From what I can tell the advantage of the 100PE over the 1001 is the higher battery rating and N wireless. Also the Windows 7 1001 comes with a larger hard drive and bluetooth while the XP 1001 has a smaller hard drive and no bluetooth. And the 1001's don't have the island/chiclet style keyboard.

Sorry to post to an old thread. There are 2 different versions of the 1001P, the 1001P-MU17 and 1001P-PU17 and 2 different versions of the 1005PE, the 1005PE-MU17 and 1005-PU17.

First they all have a 10.1" 1024 x 600 pixel screen, 1GB Ram, M450 processor, 0.3 megapixel webcam and Window 7 starter edition. I haven't seen any U.S. versions of 1001P with Windows XP. All the online stores that sell the 1001P indicate that it comes with Windows 7 starter edition even though some netbook blogs have shown versions of it with Windows XP. I think those are the European version of the 1001P but I'm not sure.

The 1001P-MU17 has a 160gb hard drive, 802.11b/g, 11 hour battery and a normal keyboard.
The 1001P-PU17 has a 250gb hard drive, 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth, 11 hour battery and a normal keyboard.
    The 1005PE-MU17 has a 250gb hard, 802.11b/g/n, 11 hour battery and a chiclet keyboard.
The 1005PE-PU17 has a 250gb hard, 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth, 14 hour battery and a chiclet keyboard.

I'm waiting for them to release the 1005HR with similar specs as the 1005PE-PU17 in the U.S. The 1005HR has a 1366 x 768 resolution 10.1" screen. AFAIK, it's still only available in Japan with an N280 processor :(
