Just got a new Asus netbook 1005H for my grandaughter. There is a bunch of Eee software. Can I delete it without any problems? How can I get that pull down thing in the center top of the screen to go away (what do I need to uninstall). Just want to optimize it. Also on another subject. Does anyone know where to download little games for kids, like dress up clothes on the screen type stuff (there was something like that installed on the acer I returned

Yes, you can delete them (I took them all off my wife's 1005HA). You can make the dock go away if you go run msconfig and uncheck the various Eee software lines; one of those is the dock (be careful, do google searches as you go if you haven't done this before).

Personally, I wouldn't go the Remove Programs route as this deletes them forever (and you never know if she might someday find them useful when she's 7-9). Better to use msconfig to get them out of autorun at startup, so they can be re-added easily rather than having to do a full system recover :).

If you can't figure it out on your own, send me a Private Message or post again here and I'll grab my wife's Eee to figure out which ones I unchecked.

As for free child-friendly software, I've got my girls (both under 6y) using Playhouse Disney, Webkinz and NickJr/Noggin from desktop shortcuts. These are great, easy for them to use independently and the content is updated periodically - they're online only, obviously, but hopefully your son/daughter has wireless at home. Else, look at JumpStart software.

I am at work now so I will get a screenshot after while. Thank you all for your help so far it is greatly appreciated. The netbook is for my 7 year old grandaughter. We go to disney etc.. But I am hoping to find similar games to run offline when we are on trips etc.. out of wireless service. Thanks again.
