Hello forum!
Just received my 1015pn today and immediately did a fresh wipe to win7 prof 32 bit. I had a bit of trouble installing some drivers, but eventually got the wifi, and video drivers to work fine.
however, when switching to Optimus, it seems to be stuck on 800x600. I have installed the intel drivers from asus's website. Video is fine when on ION but lost on Optimus.
Any tips?
Thanks

...so your good now? I too had some problems getting Optimus to work on my 1015pn but got it to work eventually with some tweaking.
-
Im good with the FN keys, not the optimus. For one, the check box that keeps optimus selected is greyed out, and when in Optimus mode, it is only 800x600 even though I installed the Intel driver.

Hmm and when you go to display adapters what does it say? What version ION driver are you using? After the fresh install you should have installed the graphics switch program, enabled optimus then it should have installed the intel GMA and ION drivers at the same time, click to enable optimus at boot, and it should work after that.
The resolution problem sounds like a driver problem... -
Under display adapters it says: Nvidia ION driver version: 8.17.12.5912
After the win7 install, i installed the graphics switch program, and needed to install the nvidia driver from the asus website. I then switched to "Optimus" mode and installed the Intel driver from the Asus website...and it restarted the pc like it should after installation. It, for some reason, asked to restart again immediately and never showed that it was installed. -
Under display adapters it should show ION AND GMA, both ready to use is the point of optimus and why it couldnt be used on win7 starter, because starter can only load one graphics driver at a time, requiring a restart.
Hmm Id update the ION drivers, and try reinstalling the graphics program in safe mode.
The only difference between us as far as I can tell is that I did I clean install of win7 HP 64 bit not Prof 32... -
Yeah, it does not show both of them. I will have to try that when I get home, and update this post.
*cross fingers* Hopefully it will work!
Thanks for the help!
Update: So, my ION driver keeps telling me it is as update and the "best driver". I uninstalled and reinstalled Graphics Switcher on SafeMode...with no luck. Still only shows Ion under display adapters. Going to try to reinstall the Intel Driver while in safemode. -
You shouldnt use Windows to check for updates to ION, go to Nvidias site lol
If you dled from ASUS then its likely version 258.xx or something...nvidias site is at 266.88 (either way its far more updated then ASUS...I havent been on my netbook in a while so ill edit/update this post with the correct numbers when I am)
Ok boot up normally, uninstall the graphics switch program
boot into safe mode and remove all graphics drivers for ION and GMA
while still in safe mode reinstall the switch program, launch it and select optimus to start upon start up, it should prompt restart
restart into windows (nonsafe mode) and the thing that says "installing new device and drivers" should pop up in notifications, if done correctly you should be able to click on that and it will show it installing ION and GMA at the same time, after it might prompt for one more restart (not sure though) and you should be good.
If all of that still doesnt resolve the problem then im out of suggestions, I apologize =/ -
I did what you said and, at first it didnt work =[
but then, I messed around and reinstalled the Intel driver, worked perfectly
Now everything is gravy!
I appreciate your patients and help!

Lol glad you got it working

Really quickly, I have the little icon in the notifications that shows whether the gpu is being used. I turned on Super Meat Boy and played that, it ran smooth, but the icon still said the GPU is not being used.
Is that supposed to happen? >.>
Next up is Portal. -
The transition between the GMA and ION is nearly instant so if you were in the game and quickly tried to exit and check, it would likely still say Activity: None. If your games are running smoothly though then obviously the ION is working/being used lol or you can try an HD video and see if the ION is used for that.
To be honest ive never checked if/when that changes but my guess is that it does, im just busy doing something -
Well, I alt-tabbed out. But, thats true! As long as its running smooth :]
Portal ran silky smooth so far. Surprising as Minecraft didn't run for crap. -
You can also try connecting it to an external monitor through the HDMI, which forces it to ION and see if theres any difference
Just a suggestion
And I too have portal but havent tried it on the netbook yet, just update one of your posts for me would ya on how it runs?
EDIT: Ive never played MineCraft but I thought I had read somewhere that the ION didnt quite run it at desirable frames...was it god awful or just partly so? lol -
It was fairly unbearable. It did move...but no more then a few fps. From what I read its pretty CPU intensive...so that may be why.

^^
Try SetFSB
I can use it to safely overlock my CPU to about 1.92ghzmight help
