    Any personal experiences with either?

I'm way more inclined to get a 1005PE instead, but it really is too bad the 1005PE doesn't seem to do video playback properly...

I love my 1201N. It does everything I could ask of it and then some. The dual core Atom and nVidia ION graphics give it the power to handle any video I throw at it, including Youtube HD videos, along with locally stored DVD rips.

    Thanks, I ended up buying a 1005PE.

Battery life and cheapness is the whole purpose of a netbook to me, even if it doesn't do multimedia as well, it performs its primary function for much longer so Ill be OK.

Any chance of a review for the 1005PE? :)

Sure thing, Newegg is delivering mine today or tomorrow (I love being close to their NJ warehouse).

So I played with it for a little while.... overall very pleased.

It turns out full screen HULU runs between 18 - 20 FPS, which is just 4 FPS off from perfect NTSC 24FPS movies.

Here is a sample of HULU playing Heroes in full screen.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37ymjgWiEy8

You can tell there is a millisecond of delay, but overall the video is actually fairly smooth, though not silky.

Watchable? Yes, I can see myself watching anything on Hulu in this manner on the go.

DivX, OGM, MKV etc Videos using CCCP were of course, no issues. Perfectly smooth full screen 720P or whatever the video it resizes to.

So besides a slightly silkier HULU experience and HDMI out, the the 1005PE does everything you want a netbook to do. Pretty brisk web browsing via Chrome, flawless DivX type video type playback, watchable HULU and on the go photo swapping/whatever with your camera.

I'll ask NBR if they are interested in a full review, but otherwise, suffice it to say I don't think I'll be upgrading anything on this system. I thought about putting in a 7200RPM HD and Windows 7 x64 Pro, but that would lower battery life. I thought about adding another 1GB of RAM but I don't see usage going over 600MB with web browsing.

So, 12 hours of battery life and most video capabilities in tact are OK in my book. No gaming here though.

I'll snag a DDR2 SODIMM at $20-$30 when the time is right, and I'll probably call it a day.
