    Hi everyone,

Well, the time has come to make a decision on a laptop. My current Dell is just over 4 years old, and although it runs pretty well still, the screen has decided to stop functioning, so I have to hook it up with a VGA to a TV to do anything.

Having said that, I have decided that an Asus will likely be my next purchase. I have been looking around quite a bit, and I am impressed with the UL30 as well as the 1215n. I realize that these might be quite different notebooks, but I thought I would gather some opinions on what people would suggest.

    My requirements/needs are as follows:

I do not do any gaming
I generally surf the internet, download music, videos, etc
I do a little bit of work with Office applications

Other than that, I like the idea of the laptop being portable and having decent battery life. I realize both of these machines have their pros and cons, but I am looking for some help to decide!!!

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Thanks!

    Paul

UL30 hands down. It may cost a little more but the Atom CPU any way you slice it is underpowered. Even the SU4100/7300 are significantly better performing for every day tasks, and actually loosely twice as powerful as the Atom.

That being said, depends on your budget. The 1215n is $500 compared with $750 for the UL30. Another option is the Hannspree laptop in my sig, see the review for the Hannsbook. Has basically the same specs as the UL30 except it's a 12.1" instead of 13.3" and you'll be limited to 2GB RAM. It may take a 4GB module in its single slot, but they have a warrantly void sticker on the compartment to change the RAM. But I'm sure if you called and asked them if you can change the RAM they may be ok with it. Plus it only gets about 4-4.5 hours of real use battery life. It costs $430 at newegg.com
