I would have certainly bought this model if it was announced before F8Va-C1. It is $300 cheaper than that at the time of the announcement...

Good luck... If you plan to come here eventually, get ready for the arctic winters. :) No exaggeration. :p

This would be an excellent 13" notebook if the 4570 uses GDDR3.

That will cost me at least $500. Not affordable...

I am still happy with my F8 (especially after the HDD upgrade - Seagate Momentus 7200.4, 500GB - 7200RPM). :p

They might. Previous version of the F6's 3470 had GDDR2, so I assume that it would be the same for this one as well, especially since it has 512MB VRAM. Still a very good notebook regardless; that's a pretty fast processor for a 13".

Wow! This thing looks really thin, and it should pack some good gaming punch, ASUS is starting to come out with some great new products, I almost forgive them for the whole C90's mess...anyway...
I wonder if you might be able to upgrade the GPU with the 4870...please ASUS don't solder the GPU to the MOBO

Given Asus' past F series, it will most likely be soldered. Even with heavy modding doubt you will get a 4870 into it.

Above is a quote from the page, I don't think a whole paragraph is a typo. It goes on to say that the 4570 uses GDDR3, DDR2, and DDR3. GDDR2 is not mentioned at all. I'm not ruling out the possibility of notebookcheck being wrong though (or me reading this wrong), but it is definitely more than a simple typo.

EDIT: I think this clears things up, it seems that all GDDR2 is actually DDR2 and that real GDDR-2 is obsolete. So it is sort of a typo, just not in the way I thought. This means that there is nothing to worry about, it is the same as anything mislabeled as GDDR2.

That thing is singularly ridiculous. HD 4570 in a 4.3lb 13" enclosure?

However, given Asus' previous cooling problems, the F6Ve is going to heat up like craaaaaaaazy. Still, that kinda power, at those prices....might even be worth it :p

it seems like they changed up alot of things on this newer F6 as for heat the 4570 uses the SAME wattage as the 3470 despite being substantially better thats pretty awesome.

A 4570 is more like a 9500gs in performance which is extremely good when you consider it is a "low end" GPU.

It also is 55nm compared to 9600gt 65nm. So it should run much cooler. I also think this thing is gonna have a pretty awesome overclocking potential.

its a cool notebook, but the n81 with ati looks more attractive. its true you go from 13 inch to 14 inch but you also just about double your 3d mark 06 score.

The specs from Asus are usually quite good. I wish they would place better speakers, screens and webcams in them though. A lot of people spend time chatting or listening to music on their laptops these days if not watching a movie or something. I have been looking for a nice 12" laptop with good specs but it has been hard to find one.

According to NBC, the 4570 is actually a bit better than the 3670, which in turn is a bit better than the DDR2 9600M GT.

Wow, ATI really did a good job here.

Either this or a brand new Dell Studio 15.6" :)

I'm just waiting for battery life and temp info before recommending this to my sister. She prefers something smaller (weight is not a problem) with dedicated graphics (my brainwashing must have worked).

@Delta_CT, your sister should look into the Inspron 13, with the 8400M GS. I can't imagine she would play anything too demanding.

Battery life in the F6 has been covered in previous threads if you look around, since this model is nearly 12mo old.

To shortcut your answer on battery: 2-2.5 hours max.

Temps are going to be warm if you stress it, as this is a dedicated gpu inside a small 13" chassis.

My apologies, you are right. I would like to think the improved graphics card won't take a big hit on the battery life, but I'll hold my tongue until someone can actually verify.

Asus only changes the chassis if there is a major redesign or platform update, not when something is done in mid-cycle as this will be - so it should be same design as existing F6v models.

OK I have a problem here. I have to choose between F6Ve-B1 which has all the ports I need, better cpu and gpu than my second choice VAIO SR. Also I was looking into Asus F8? The one with 14.1 screen and 1gb geforce but I don't like the brown glossy finish. I also had on mind STUDIO 15 but should I go for it only because of the screen? I will use F6V-B1 as a desktop replacement with external display. So there is no need going for studio 15 right ? Plz share your thoughts, thank you.

Also: what F6Ve-B1 has black design only right? I swear I saw the same specs with silver casis on other sites.

Whats a battery life on the F6Ve-B1?

    Cheers

    1. You're talking about 3 different screen sizes here, and various folks prefer 13, 14 or 15 - depends on what you think yourself. Both the F6 and F8 are looking to be reliable and good (yet somewhat budget) quality offerings from Asus, with no major QC issues. Bottom line is that in the end, you have to live with what you purchase, and others' opinions will only go so far toward addressing your needs and desires.

    2. The S15 is a decent system. Again, depends on your personal preference and it will occupy more physical space on a desk than a 13" model will. The gpu options are lower, but will result in a cooler chassis than the F6 due to the larger size (internal airflow is better) and lower power gpu.

    3. The US/North America F6Ve is supposed to be black. Websites with the silver version are likely linking to Asus' global pix, as this is the way the F6 is sometimes sold in other markets, rather than direct photos. That is the way drop-ship companies do things.

    4. Battery life on the F6 was discussed as recently as the bottom of the previous page in this thread :). Based on previous F6 releases, 2-2.5 hours max, and this is likely to be consistent with the latest Ve-B1 without much variation.

    +

Previous versions of F6 series had P series processors having 25W TDP whereas this one has T series with 35W TDP. I would expect this model to have certainly less battery life than the previous F6 models.

I am not sure how much power Mobility Radeon 4570 (in F6Ve-B1) consumes compared to 3470 (in F6V-A1).

yes, 2900 3dmark for 1280 x 1024 thats still the best for a single low end card.

but i guess if you are buying this notebook the 3200 1280 x 800 score would probably matter more anyway :D

    Definitely. Gentech ftw.

I can't really speak to the benefits of an uberpowerful 13" notebook, especially from Asus. My W7s gets extremely hot, and has pretty poor battery life for a computer of this size. Maybe Asus has improved though, I don't know.

I'd be surprised if the F6Ve broke 2 hours of runtime in general use.
