Hey guys,
Laptopvideo2go.com recently hosted these drivers, which are hot off the press directly from ASUS. Just wanted to recommend them to everyone, since they've boosted my raw 3dmark06 score a full 200 points to 3900 without any OC'ing and without increase in temps.
I think it's also managed to eliminate the slight stuttering that 8600m gt users experience during certain games.
Highly recommended!

I wanna see some comparison to the 169.04 drivers before I use these. Also, are these as overclockable as the 169.04 drivers?
-
Hey guys these drivers work with the ddr3 card without losing preformance... but over clocking does not work!
-
It's weird how everybody's experience with the same drivers is different.
I'm using a G1S-A1 with the dd3 8600m GT and these drivers are certainly overclockable with Riva Tuner. I prefer the to the 169.04, although I recognize the 04's as a solid choice. -
Ok I ran the 3dmark06 test... These drivers gave me 4000 points in game mode!!!!!!! But does not let the ddr3 card for the C90S overclock! Lets try to figure out how to do it im ruinning bios 502 maybe a diffrent bios will let you do it. Also if you go to battery mode the clocks drop and the only way to reset them is by reboot.
someone with a c90s with ddr3 card please test them and report back. -
I know my card is only DDR2 but I'm currently doing a comparison test between 169.04 and these drivers. I plan on using CS:S and 3DMark06, both Standard and Gaming Mode with the card at 550/1200/475.
-
bump! anyone got any results
-
Running them now...3DMark06 takes about 9 minutes per run, its finishing up game mode with 169.04, gotta run CS:S as well.
-
well the ddr3 card for the C90s has never been able to upgrade without losing preformance. Now we have a driver that upgrades without losing preformance but cant overclock. I gained like 20 fps in all games accross the board but now i cant overclock. I was not able to run company of heros direct x 10 mode without it being a slide show... now it runs at like 20 fps direct x 10. Its cool that we now have a new driver but it sucks that it wont let us overclock.
-
What do you use to overclock? RivaTuner should have no problem at all for you. One question, is this driver update for Vista only? I don't see Windows XP listed anywhere.
-
Riva tuner ussually lets me overclock but not with this driver. Everytime i click apply and ok the core and memory go back to stock.
-
Have you tried nTune yet? Worth a shot. I'm still not having any luck finding a Windows XP version of this driver.
-
yeah i tried ntune... same thing. I wonder if maybe changing diffrent bios version will do it.
-
exact same 3dmark score as 169.25 for me. Havnt played any games as of yet, so cant give a word on that.
-
It's a nice driver, although I must say that upon further inspection it is allowing my GPU to heat up quite significantly. There used to be a 98 degree cap on graphics intensive applications that applied to every other driver except this one without any OC, but this one peaks well over 100 degrees for me even without any OC!
Despite that, gaming performance is up significantly, and I'm even able to play UT3 at 1280x800 with world and texture details set to 3 at multiplayer-friendly framerates! That's excellent!
Keep up your investigations and let me know what you find.
P.S. Which v. of Rivatuner are you using? I use 2.06 and it allows me to overclock without a problem. 580.780 gives me a 3dmark06 score of 4600! -
im using 2.06 riva tuner although it says it dosent support this driver when i try to use it... still no overclock
-
I will try him out on my Asus G1S in an hour (now i got to go
)
I will let you know if I can overclock with the 167.49 driver (using nvidia ntune) -
I tried these drivers on my Asus G1S and had the same stutter issues I have with all the other 16X.XX series drivers. Had to revert back to the 15X.XX drivers again
-
where are the 64 bit drivers? Are they packaged in with the 32 bit ones like the rest of the ones Asus releases?
-
I HIGHLY recommend this driver !!!
Works SUPER for all my games (also got fps increase in games like cod4 ^^), i will run 3DMARK06 today and will post my score -
its the first driver that works for ddr3 8600m gt video card for c90s.
-
Yes but only for you Vista x86 users. I'm half-way tempted just to find 167.49 and try them seeing as people are having better results.
-
there is no overclock
-
Using nVidia ntune (nvidia control pannel) -
The C90S ddr3 8600m gt is diffrent when it comes to drivers. Us users can only use the stock drivers to overclock and not lose preformance. IF I download anydriver my preformance drops 50% and I cant overclock. This is the first driver ever by which we update and not lose any preformance at all. The only problem is that it cant overclock... ive tried everything including ntune and rivatuner so on. Thats why I want someone else with the 8600m gt ddr3 card with a C90S to try it. Maybe bios has something to do with it.
-
I've got the newest bios, I'l download them and give the drivers a shot.
-
I will run 3DMARK06 now (with overclock) and see how the driver does, ill post my score with the 169.28 driver to
-
wonton you got a c90s with a 8600m gt ddr3 card?
-
Apparently so. Lucky bastard (despite issues). Anyone want to trade for mine? I've modded mine to passively cool the underside RAM :] :]
-
yeah, I'll be running 3dmark06 soon

In the past there was confusion in overclocking because several people "thought" they could overclock because the option to do so was unlocked. Most people think that if they cant overclock the option is greyed out or locked in some manner wich is normally true.
However in newer drivers it seems to be where the option is there and totally unlocked but after you set a higher speed to run at and hit "ok" the clocks just reset back to normal after a few seconds.
Make sure before you state you can overclock with the drivers that your not one of these people that mistakenly say you can overclock and you cant. I myself made the same mistake in the past.
Its nice to finally see drivers that work with the GDDR3 card, if I was one of you guys I would be very happy because already stock the GDDR3 card is about 30% faster than the DDR2 card, I had both cards in my possesion and sent back the GDDR3 card because the old stock drivers didnt work correctly for a number of games I had and thus I had to choose between performance and compatibility. I went for the later and now may sort of regret it.
Its a good sign period tho knowing that there CAN be drivers that work with that card that dont kill the performance, many of us lost hope after trying well over 15 or so drivers and every one had the same problem. -
This is deffinatly a great driver... everything i used to play 1280 resolution overclocked i can play 1400 resolution stock clock. Another problem I have is when i unplug the charger the clocks fall and wont reset back to stock clock unless restarted. Im hopping its problem with my bios version. Still waiting on wonton to confirm.
-
Almost done, I ran 3dmark06 on all 3 turbogear settings, and I will post comparisons of the new drivers to the stock drivers once the last test finishes.
-
see if you cant overclock the video card! and then unplug and replug the charger and see if the clocks go back to regular. To that test in the end.
-
I can confirm that neither ntune nor rivatuner will allow overclocking with the 169.47 drivers. Below are comparisons of 3dmark06 scores with the new drivers, and the stock drivers.
E6600 2.4 Ghz
2 GB RAM
newest BIOS 801
Stock Drivers
Standard Mode:
Max Temp under load: 101 Celsius; Idles at 84 Celsius

3dmark06 score: 3797
Overclock Mode:
Max Temp under load: 96 Celsius; Idles at 77 Celsius
3dmark06 score: 3974
169.47 Drivers with modded inf
Standard Mode:
Max Temp under load: 95 Celsius; Idles at 75 Celsius
3dmark06 score: 3771
Gaming Mode:
Max Temp under load: 97 Celsius; Idles at 77 Celsius
3dmark06 score: 3782
Overclock Mode:
Max Temp under load: 91 Celsius; Idles at 72 Celsius
3dmark06 score: 4172
As seen with the results above, there are small performance gains. What really impresses me is that the temps drop about 5-7 degrees. -
can you overclok using ntune rivatune
-
I can't overclock with the new drivers at all. Also, I can't test the plug and unplug situation, because my c90 still hangs up everytime I unplug it while it is on.
-
hmm man i want to overclock so bad
-
I feel ya, I was so close to breaking 5k with my overclock
-
i broke 5k with my overclock but lets hope asus releases a new set for c90s. I emailed them a bit ago and hope they have a response for us. Im gonna keep trying to make this work. Im kinda glad that there is a least some driver that works. Its a step into a new direction.
-
Yeah, I am happy with the new drivers, now my temps are a lot lower.
-
I recommend that you let your vent right under your mouse pad hang off the table. Once the fans turn on it draws most of its air right from that little vent. It draws it easier if you let it hang out of the table.
-
Thats an idea, I plan on doing Vicious' mod once gentech gets back to me about obtaining a spare ACE door
-
did they say they would get you one?
-
I emailed them over two weeks ago, and I haven't gotten a response. I am guessing it is because of the holidays

If your really set on overclocking dont let the drivers stop you, there is always a bios level option where you can softmod the bios of the card itself to run at a higher speed, then you never have to worry about drivers again for overclocking.

Ladies and gentlemen (mostly gentlemen),
With the advent of these new drivers I have taken the liberty of pushing hellgate london up a notch in graphics and seeing the results. In DX10 mode with shaders on very high, all other settings on medium (except for one on high, forgot which), and the following effects on - extra light effects, extreme weather, triple buffering, and v-sync at the 1680x1050 resolution I have achieved very playable FPS.
The game went from a technical nightmare previously to a veritable feast for the eyes as I roamed through the deep crevaces of the streets and subways of london on the hunt for demons. These drivers = massive win.
Oh and my specs are very very modest too - C90s with 2.13ghz C2D, 2 gig ram, gddr2 8600gt, home premium, 160gig 5400rpm drive.
And this was with NO OVERCLOCKING AT ALL! -
please remember to give sherman some rep for posting these
-
I don't even know what rep is
All I know is that, based on my experience with countless drivers from laptopvideo2go.com, these are certainly the best fit for my G1S.
In fact, my raw, non-overclocked 3dmark06 score is now 3980!!! Games have improved all-around, and temperatures are the same or only slightly higher than before.
Additionally, I don't know how to explain this but I *can* overclock with these drivers using rivatuner v. 2.06. At 580/780 my 3dmark06 score was well over 4600, which is un-achievable without overclocking.
Glad everyone is enjoying it! Asus and laptopvideo2go deserve all the credit! -
Wish i could use these but im on XP. I still use the 169.04 drivers and i get 4200+ on 3DMark06, no overclock. Maybe if these come on XP, ill check these out.
167.49 Drivers, I Recommend Them!
