    Hi there lovely people,

I have decided to go 17" after playing with couple of lappies having the 15.4" and I concluded that they are rather small for my vision :D

Could someone please tell me what lappy could be close to my Asus M51sn but having 17"

Recommendation should be around same [ +, = or little but -] to the config below except that 17". It could be another brand:

    Asus M51Sn with 15.4" Glare Type WXGA+ - Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 - NVIDIA Geforce Go 9500M GS 512Mb - 3Gb DDRII 667 - 250Gb+TPM - 8X Super Multi DL Light Scribe - 8 in 1 -WLAN 802.11a/g/n - Vista Home Premium - Bluetooth - Finger print - 1.3MP videokamera - 6-Cellbattery.

Just go to Asus.com and look through the website.

    Look up notebooks
and then search by size: 17"

There you can find there 17" models with the specs.

It looks like really your only choices are the G2 OR W2. There is also the A7, but I don't think it is going to carry the specs you are looking for.

If you are looking elswhere, I would have to agree auburn, since it seems like everyone is leaning towards sager when it comes down to the upmost performance for the price. Also there is the Toshiba x205 series with some pretty decnt specs.

thanks for the prompt reply... the Toshiba seems to have effect to the look. I would prefer that the lappy is clean. I mean either complete black, silver or a mixture of both.

Sometimes you have to compromise to get what you want :). Gaming notebooks aren't known for looking like business bricks - they tend to be flashy to various degrees rather than understated.....

As noted, Asus effectively has only two 17" systems, and most of the folks around here are Asus product fans so recommendations on competitor's products can be limited. You might do better posting your request in the other various manufacturer's forums here @ NBR.

well i dropped this year because I have been thinking to go for the Asus because of the specs I wanted and I know how much I would get that from Asus compared to other manufacturers. The Asus G2 isnt all that flashy and bad - just the red colours sideways and the evil eye or what is that called :D

But isnt the Asus G2 coming with own number keypad since it is 17"?

A friend of mine just got his G2 in last Friday. It has a really nice look to it. I will have to say though it is pretty flashy inside and on the side with the red lighting and "evil eye", but it's not too over the top. As for the actual front side I think it might be what your looking for. It is a faux brushed aluminum and is very clean and simple in it's look. I don't know if a newer model is coming out, but as far as I know of all models up to this point do not have a number keypad. Just remember once you hit the 17" mark there is a huge change in portability. He is moving his around everyday, but it is greater than 9 lbs. so just keep that in mind.

Well yeah I thought of the weight too :D I think the bag will do the work for that carrying and I am also planning to get the Logitech Kinetik bag too later ;)

I do like the outside look with that aluminum thing. I don't have problems with that :) Now I have to think of living with the side red light and the evil eye if I end up choosing that PC. The config for the one on sale here is:

    17" WXGA+ Glare - Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 - NVIDIA 8600M GT GDDR3 256Mb - 3Gb DDR2 667 - 300Gb 4200rpm - DVD Super Multi DL Light Srcibe - Hybrid TV-receiver - 1.3MP kamera - 802.11agn - Bluetooth - Vista Home Premium - 1Gb TurboMemory - 8 cell battery - Game mouse & bag for € 1 569,75. Any good?

To be honest, the W2W to me is a pretty a real special one. Not only is it Santa Rosa platform, but one of the last "high" build quality machines compariable to the W3, V6, V2, Asus Ensemble era. So it's definately higher in build quality compared to the more recent flashy, shiny machines.

I definately think it's worth a good look rather than the m51 or MBP which don't quite fit the bill.

Could you please tell if you've touch it. Does the aluminum feel like plastic and grabs fingerprints? I dont think it will show though if it does because it isnt black glossy plastic. I would appreciate this reply to make my final decision in respect to the price tag.

    Thanks

It is plastic with a glossy coating. It really does look just like aluminum though. It threw me off when I first touched it, because I thought I was going to be feeling the cool metal like the inside palm rest area. So with it having gloss then you can expect fingerprints, however, on my friends it doesn't show up at all due to the color and pattern, you don't notice any fingerprints like you do on mine (F8), which shows everything.

Thanks. That is what I was thinking too. The black glossy will show it all :D Now I will have to weight the price tag but I am loving the G2S and getting away from the M51Sn little by little.

Will have to go and pick this up tomorrow afternoon or on Monday if I cant make up my mind tomorrow. This is hard...geez :D

Maybe posting a thread in the What Should I Buy forum will get you more suggestions besides ASUS.
