Which would you go for and why? Only $100 price difference

    1. ASUS M70SR-7S005C 17.1" Notebook Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 2.1GHz CPU, 2GB DDR2, 250GB HDD, 17.1" 1440x900 Display, ATI 3470 256MB Dedicated Video, DVD Burner, WebCam, TV Tuner, HDMI, Windows Vista Home Premium, $1699

    2. ASUS M70SA-A1 17" WXGA+
    RAM: 3GB DDR2 667
    CPU: PENRYN T5550
    HARD DISK: 320GB 5400rpm
    GRAPHICS: ATI HD 3650 1GB
    CONNECTIVITY: Wifi, Bluetooth
    WINDOWS: Vista H/Premium

Only $100 price difference. I'm not a gamer and mainly buying a 17" desktop replacement that I can shut away to minimise clutter in my room. I want to use it for a TV and the occasional DVD too so the Asus inbuilt TV tuner is attractive.

I'd be happy to hear of other brands/ models that might satisfy my needs. I liked the Toshiba p300 but it's a few hundred extra, comes with vista business only and doesn't have a TV.

Maybe it'd be better to fill in the FAQ and post in What Should I Buy to get non-ASUS suggestions.

Whether the tv tuner works depends on your particular region. It doesn't work in the US, if I'm recalling correctly, due to broadcast standards issues.

If that's the only difference, I would suggest taking the -SA model if it's less expensie (you don't say above) for the larger hdd and later gpu, since you will get absolutely no benefit from the 8100 cpu with the planned uses you describe. Else, take the least expensive one since you're only intending to have basic usage and get an aftermarket tv tuner if necessary.

Thanks Deity, the big numbers look important but like you say for me won't make a difference.
