I was just looking on the GenTech page, pricing out a G2S-A1, and I noticed they have added/changed a few options. One of the new options is a 1GB Intel Turbo Memory Card. What is this? Is it worth $39 to add to the customization?

    Thanks in advance,
    Donovan

$39 is probably a decent price when you consider overhead and labor costs.

Otherwise, it depends on who you ask. Unlike the other major manufacturers HP is not installing the TurboMemory option in any of their systems, because they didn't see a reasonable performance bump in Vista's function. You can get comparable performance, apparently, by just using a good SD card and activating ReadyBoost instead. Plus, it seems that one can't have TurboMem and RB active at the same time.

I'm looking at having 3GB of RAM installed in the machine anyway. From what I've read about how much RAM Vista can handle, the trials and tribulations between RB and TurboMem, and the HP review saying that adding more RAM gave better performance, I'm thinking with 3GB RAM, I wouldn't really need the TurboMem card?

most of the new santa rosa ensembles support itm. a8sc is an exception. F3s series actually has 3 express slots also supporting internal tv tuner in the same type slot. So far tests are inconclusive with all the new ensembles. benchmark results show no improvement.

I would think that if TurboMemory worked results would be very conclusive, since they aren't, I assume it doesn't. From what I have read about how it is set up, it seems like an all or nothing type of deal, not a "works a little bit" thing. I guess we have to wait for Robson 2.0 before Intel starts crossing all of their t's before releasing new technology.

Vista doesn't actually support TurboMemory. Microsoft ditched the feature to meet the release date. Sony and HP have both dropped it from future models as a result.
