So i'm getting a laptop cooler while at college since I really hate how my C90 sits on a very cramped desk with poor ventilation. I narrowed my choices down to two models - BYTECC http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834999336

    and an evercool - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834992005

Both are aluminum based for better heat dissipation bu I don't know which one to pick. The evercool has a better base but the BYTECC looks like it has the better fans. Those are really important since I did the vicious mod and plan on having a fan over my gpu. Does anyone have any experience/opinion on either? I'm planning on ordering sometime this week after classes.

This thread is of interest to me as I'm still looking for a laptop cooler for my notebook. Does it matter if what you are going to purchase blows air or sucks air?

Reason I'm asking is that I believe that majority of asus notebooks have vents on the side, which means that they would work best with coolers that blow air (Coolers that suck air are supposedly counterproductive if the notebook is sucking air from the bottom).

If that matters to you, then I would go with evercool because you can switch the direction of air flow.

Of course, if you're willing to spend extra moolah, I keep reading great reviews of the Zalman coolers

The zalmans seem pretty good for casual cooling but for something like the C90 I need raw power. The zalman fans strike a good balance between performance and sound but I don't really care how loud it is so long as it keeps me cool. The C90 has a rear exhaust unit referred to as the "turbo engine" - 4x40mm fans that are housed in the back. Each one puts out 13.5cfm on its own so areound 50cfm combined = power. The problem is these fans keep the cpu cool but no tthe gpu which is housed deeper into the unit. I did what is referred to as the "vicious mod" - I pretty much cut a hole in the bottom of my case and put some screening over it so my gpu can get some air when it's on my lap. Needless to say, it gets really hot in there so I'd like something powerful to either suck the hot air out or blow cool air over the gpu.

I'd say Evercool on this one. The position and fan sizes seem to be optimal for the C90s. However, I don't know how well these fans are and how much air they actually push considering that some users considered it relatively (silent).

Judging by the picture, I don't think there is a switch to change the airflow direction. Infact, it looks like a cooler that sucks air as opposed to blowing.

However, I'd say that if you had the money, I would suggest the Zalman NC1000 instead as that has a RPM switch allowing you to control the airflow(likely at maximum) and has a much better build quality.

But the zalman seems like it has some pretty low max speeds even though it is adjustable. And as I said, I don't care about sound or even aesthetics too much so long as it works. I know the zalman coolers are high quality but if it doesn't do the job then it's just going to be of little use to me for a long time then.

I know.. But it's worth checking out.

I have reason to believe that this pushes quite a bit of air enough to cool a c90s properly funny how the cons of a review is actually a good thing for us... "Cons - * High Speed makes more noise than the laptop without a cooler"
