I just bought a 2gb ram module, and upgraded my W7J to 2.5gb. So for all those who are wondering, the W7J will accept a 2gb ram module.

Thanks for testing that out! Great news then, with the W7s coming out soon, I'd expect it'd be the same!

In some areas of course. Not out here yet, probably next week or one after.

What are the new specs for the W7J?
How will it match up to the Dell XPS m1330?

I'm not at all surprised. But its good to know 100% that it works just fine, as I know many other users have asked about the possibility of upgrading to 2.5GB's.

The dual channel performance increase is negligible.

So you could say that 2.5 vs 2.0 is a 25% performance increase.

However, for most applications today 2.5 GB will not be necessary, so the increase in performance is actually negligible.

Exceptions are video encoding, professional photo processing and other memory-intensive applications where the advantage might be felt.

Thanks for experimenting and letting us know. I am sure there are a lot of happy W7J owners who are ecstatic to find out that the possibilities do not end at 1.5. Including me! Were you able to perform any kind of memory usage/functionality/ stress test?

I also upgraded to the new Seagate 7200.2 hard drive. So I'm spending my time, reinstalling my system.

So far, the newer hard drive is faster--fast enought that I can notice the difference from the 7200.1.

and unless you are running a 64bit OS there is little benefit from installing over 2gb RAM I even found with large photoshop files windows xp actually page filed more and was slower, XP64 Edition on the other hand loves more RAM, on my desktop I am running XP64 and 4GB ram, its great I can have a large photoshop file with photoshop memory usage set to 80% and I can open AutoCAD and Indesign all at the same time!

Vista 32bit or 64? I had a quick play with Vista 32 last May and thought it had similar RAM limitations as XP, or maybe it was just issues with the pre release?

yeah thats kind of what I mean, you need a 64bit OS to take advantage of more than 2 gb ram, a 32 bit OS will accept it, run perfectly fine but not nessecarily utilise it all.

I mostly made the point just in case people were trying to install 2 x 2gb sticks in there laptops under a 32 bit OS, which is a bit of a waste.

But for future upgrades, it is good to know the 2 GB sticks work in Asus laptops.
