So I noticed that the 260m gpu has an aluminum like square around the center logo where you would normally apply cooling compound. Should I apply compound to that aluminum like square ?

Depending on the type of thermal compound, there are different ways to apply the compound onto the heatsink. Check with the manufacture's instructions for their recommended application instructions.

On a side note, once you remove the heatsink, you should see the stock thermal compound (should be a grayish colored paste). Make sure you clean it thoroughly with a thermal compound remover such as this or with rubbing alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

Yea no offense lol but I'm not new to laptops. Had much much experience but I have never ever seen an aluminum ring like this one. It puzzled me. Thanks for the response

I'm assuming this is being done to your G51. If so, I'm very interested. I want to see if you require a heatpad or if just paste works.
