I have had my ASUS g50vt-x6 for three days.... Already ive experienced problems. So far Ive loaded the battlefield 1942 complete collection. When i first tried to play 1942 it ran good for a while. Sometimes i would run it and right before i played a game it would exit out and tell me "Battlefield.exe. has stopped working" Also, vietnam wouldnt even let me play at all (i got that problem fixed, it was only a montor issue) but other than that, its just frustrating to me. Can anyone help me with this?

Exactly what Clutch has said. I have had great luck with the latest Nvidia beta notebook drivers. These are not tweaked to the degree of Dox nor are they as high of performance as some of the drivers on laptopvideo2go.com, but they are pretty good and retain a lot of the system's functionality.

Update your graphics card driver, check out for any Asus updates for your laptop, and download and install any BF patches.

Most manufacturers have either a utility or procedure for new users to update their systems once they first get them. Your system manuals should have that info. All systems also come with instructions for registering your system on the manufacturer's site - that's not only for warranty purposes, but to show you where the support pages (which have those pesky driver, firmware and other updates) for your system are also. The support page for your particular system configuration will have the specific driver, firmware and system software updates for your system. Problem is that no one ever bothers to read the stuff that comes with their system - they just plug it in and use it.

ASUS Support is at this link: ASUS ONLINE SUPPORT You should Register your system first, then go back to the main page and click on the Download link on the right side.

However, if you've already Registered your system, then you can just click on the link below which takes you to the same place as the Download link on the main ASUS Support page. You'll need your system's Model/Series information - it should be on the ASUS label of your system.

ASUS - Download product BIOS, Drivers , User Manuals and Utilities here

All the information you need for updating your system components is there. Once you update your system from the ASUS site, you should also run Windows Update if you haven't already done so. You should also get yourself on the ASUS support forums and the ASUS forums here so that you can learn about specific issues and how it relates to your system.

Contrary to what Gen and others would say, updating your components with generic OEM drivers from NVIDIA or other component manufacturers can give you problems. If you know how to recognize that and deal with it, then by all means try different ones out. However, if you're not experienced with using drivers and updates from sources other than those that are certified for your system and posted on your manufacturer's support site, you'll be back here asking why your system isn't working right. Or, you'll be bringing it to someone like me who'll gladly fix it and hand it back to you.

With an invoice, of course....

Yes, but in Asus' case, it is not advisable to do so. Asus has the "Live Update" software which automatically helps you install new drivers that are available, but the in reality, that software utility is a piece of junk. You should go directly to the Asus support website and download the drivers manually from there.

To OP: As for graphics drivers, download the newest one from laptopvideo2go (make sure you also download the modded .inf file and replace it with the original). The graphics drivers from the Asus website are usually not optimized for gaming, but more optimized for stability's sake.
Also make sure that your screen refresh rate is set at 60Hz. Battlefield will not play/cause issues with played at any other refresh rate.

It is advisable to completely uninstall a driver before reinstalling another, if that is what you are referring to leafy. As David has said, in the Asus realm, their update utility is awful. On top of this, their driver support is worse. You will be lucky to get BIOS updates and a couple of major fixes. For your drivers, you have to primarily go off the reservation. The Nvidia Beta drivers are pretty solid and maintain many of your functions (such as sleep, hibernate, power settings, etc.). The Asus OEM graphics drivers are inadvisable because they are significantly outdated. Laptopvideo2go.com is a great spot to do more driver research. You may find a core group of G50 owners that have posted their scores and experience in regards to which driver is the better pick. Of course, updating graphics drivers can be tricky and its performance is up to each individual user at the end of the day. Best of luck.

I did a little research and a guy said this worked for him.. here is thewhole post he wrote

I've been experiencing the same problem (Renddx9.dll etc etc) with my new rig (below). Initially I thought it was to do with a corrupt installation of BF2142 or driver errors with Vista. I was using all the latest drivers available at the time. But then I was playing Guild Wars from a new installation and I was getting similar errors but with different GW files. So I checked out the event veiwer and it was having trouble writing to certain files which was forcing a crash to desktop or give odd glitches. I had a look at the securtiy permissions on the BF2142 and GW folders/files and even though I was an administrator and using the "run as administrator" option my user had not been given full permissions.

So, I decided to re-install the whole lot from scratch including Vista and done the following:

    1. Reinstall Vista and Turn off UAC
    2. Installed all the latest drivers. Chipset/Nvidia (169.x)/Audio
    3. Installed BF2142 and update 1.40
    4. Modified permissions on the BF2142 game folder and the BF Folder stored in
My Documents as "Full Control" for my user, system, creator owner etc.
(Went into advanced options and made sure it replaced permisions on all
    sub-folders and files aswell)

I've now been running BF2142 for well over a week with not even a glitch, no drops,
no CTD's, no errors. I did look at the Permissions for the PunkBuster services in Administrative Tools aswell, currenly they seem to be ok using the default "system" account priviledges since I gave "system" full access for the BF2142 folders. If anything changes, I may change them to my admin account as a test.

Also recently, I have upgraded my Nvidia drivers to v174.x, I haven't had any problems with them since install and they appear to be quite solid for me.

I hope some of this information helps anyone get their BF2142 working in Vista as it has for me.

My Specs (all with latest drivers):

    Intel Quad 6600 Go Stepping
    4gb (2x2gb) Corsair PC6400
    Nvidia 512mb Geforce 8800 GT
    Asus P5KC Lifestyle Mobo
    Creative X-Fi Extreme Gamer
    3 x Sata II 800gb Hard Drives
Windows Vista 32bit Business (Not SP1 yet)
