I pre-ordered the G53JW and added a 3 year warranty, but based on my extensive reading of the forums and study of gaming laptops, I'm starting to believe that I should just stick with the 2 year.
What's holding me back from sticking to 2 years is the successfully long lasting ATI 5870, that's been out for 1 year (?) and it's still handling games on high/ultra.
What do you guys think? Will the Nvidia 460M still be able to handle games at at least medium/high on year #3 based on the blazing fast technological advancements? Even if I were to sell it at the end of year #2, would my sale price be alot better if the buyer knew it still had warranty for another year? Hmm

For the $99 ? they charge for the extra year warranty and your plans to possibly keep the laptop up to 2 years i would say it will help the sale in the end so it cant hurt to have it..
When buying a used laptop its always nice to have a warranty..

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
This fact you must consider --
After 2 years, parts for a given laptop platform will be scarce; look at the C2D systems of 08. If the notebook breaks, and you're out of warranty.... have to buy a new one because the parts may not even going to be there for repair.
However, if it breaks and you're still under warranty - and Asus can't find the parts - they will generally (as has been the case with the G1 and G5x series) offer a new system as a replacement.
In the end, a warranty is an insurance policy. Most of the time it is not needed, but if you are one who prefers to not have to worry about the outcome in the unlikely event something happens..... then get it. -

I just had a vision of Asus owners severely overclocking their laptops while wrapping them in snug blankets and running Furmark during the last year of their warranty.

I got the 3rd year warranty extension since I have always needed to use it at some point in time with all laptops I have owned. (First laptop had 1 stick of memory go bad. That and the battery.) (Second laptop had the battery go bad and the monitor, got a replacement monitor that I swear is an upgrade to an LED backlit monitor on a 5 year old laptop lol)
So in the end they have always paid for themselves in the end.
3-Year Warranty Worth It? Considering How Fast Technology is Moving, hmm.
