    All,

I'm considering the Asus W5a, but:
Where can I find a 3-cell batery for W5a in the US? Or it is only available in Taiwan/Asia?

The bundled battery is a 6-cell one, but I'd use a smaller 3-cell one while working under AC power to preserve the life times of the 6-cell or 9-cell batteries on the go.

    Thanks

Can't you run on AC power without any battery installed at all...or does one have to be in there??

Justin, have you taken that W5a/W3V comparo pic or pics yet? I'd really like to see them. [8D]

Well, all laptops can operate under AC power without any battery attached. But the use of battery with a laptop while operated in AC power, no matter how small the battery is, can be used as a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) and you will NOT need to worry about the sudden shortage of AC power due to thunders or anything else.

The second reason, might be more important, is that the system weight can be brought to about 3.5lb (from 4.0lb) with a 3-cell battery and no protude out in the rear part of the system. I'd say a good number of people use their laptops in office would like to attach to AC power if they could. And you can minimize the charging cycles ( limited to 300 ~ 400 times for a battery) of the 6-cell or 9-cell batteries, therefore, enlongate their life times for crucial uses.

    ---- 1 - didn't take the pictures yet...

Asus isn't bringing in the 3 or 9 cells for the W5 the last time I asked them. The s5/m5 9 cell's worked and I actually like the look of the those to the plain white w5 battery. Now the s5/m5 3 cell does fit and work also, but because of a slightly different shape to the rear of the notebook, the battery sticks out a tad and doesn't look perfect. If Asus decides to bring in the other batteries, I'll let you know, but so far they haven't come to North America yet.

    Thanks,
    Justin
