    Update:
    Freebase101 has managed to overclock the most out of A8Jm users so far, his scores:
    3dmark05 4601
    3dmark06 2702

    with core/mem at 521/461
    /Update

    For anybody interested, I've been testing overclocking the Go7600 using Coolbits. I've added 5 MHz each time to the core speed (starting at default 450), then running 3dMark06.

    Right now, I'm at 495 MHz Core (haven't touched mem) .. no artifacts... 3dMark06 = 2490.

    Update:
    500 core - 2499
    505 core - 2507
    510 core - 2528
    510 core - 410 mem 2541

    Finally, an OC thread for the A8Jm. Thank you so much!

    510 core is awesome dude! But how come the memory isn't overclocked much?

    Yeah.. me = newbie at overclocking :) ... I thought I was supposed to find the core first, then when it's maxed out, reduce it by a few MHz, then try the mem. But somehow Coolbits doesn't allow me to increase the mem more than 410, hence it's low.

    Maybe I'll try Riva Tuner tomorrow.

    Update: Just read some article on OC, I'm supposed to reduce the core back to default, and then try find the max for mem, then try them both at stable max. Will do so if I have time.

    What was your score in 3dMArk05? I am not used to 06, yet. :)

    Did you see the temps rising on the GPU, how that feel? Does certain areas of the a8jm feel warmer than usual?

    Good job on the overclocking.

    Thanks,

    Thanks for the update, Darrick... I was wondering how much headroom there'd be on the 7600.

    Just be sure to keep an extinguisher close to hand... :p

    Haven't d/l 3dMark05. I thought might as well run the latest one, what's the use of running 05?

    At 510 I haven't seen any artifacts yet, so there might be some more room to go yet, but I just didn't have any more time on hand, so just thought I'd leave it at that for now. Maybe I'll try the core today.

    As for heat, I didn't look at the GPU temps (newbie mistake? :)).. just monitored the CPU & HD temps... I recall reading that once the benchmarks go down by a lot and/or artifacts show, that's when I know I've gone too far. So, didn't really look at GPU temps.

    Any x1600 OC'd that I can compare these values to? I think Mastha212's was at 2417, not sure if that's OC'd or not?

    Mastha: :) ... btw.. does the system memory affect these results? I see you have 1 GB, while I have 2 GB... will that matter at all?

    I don't think so, maybe but IMO memory has no effect on 3dm score.

    Ram MAY have a small 0.5% effect to scores, not sure tho.

    Ok when overclocking the first thing you check is your idle temps, CPU, Case, HD, and most important GPU.

    Then you record the temps at idle and with full load, preferibly a game.

    Then you overclock to the max point and see what is the idle temps of a OCed GPU, cpu, hd, and case, then see it at full load.

    If you think the temps are too hot/high then slowly reverse your overclocking process to the point where you get a noticable FPS increase and where the temps of the internals don't make a big difference to the user.

    In anycase i'm sure these laptops are cooler than my desktop anyways lol.

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

    RAM shouldn't matter, but RAM speed will matter a little bit... Do you both have 667mhz RAM?

    I have been working one mine as well. 3d mark 06!

    2360 stock
    2413 459/ 410
    2446 470/ 410
    2487 480/ 420

    I will keep moving today..temps are fine and no artifacting.
    My ram is 667 as well.

    A few more:

    2546 495/ 425
    2562 500/ 425
    2589 510/ 425

    425 seems to be the mem max as it doesn't like anything higher. Core seems fine.

    Highest I have seen is 66 on the gpu, but I will double check.

    cdd543, do you have 3dMark05 by any chance? Some people are saying that 3dMark06 makes use of the full 512MB dedicated memory on our Go7600, hence a bit of an unfair advantage on the x1600 with 256 ded and 256 Hyper.

    The 05 version is supposed to be a fairer comparison. I haven't downloaded it yet, but might be interested in seeing what kinda scores we can get...

    Just got a PM from FreeBase101... he's managed to overclock his Go7600 in his to about 521/458, and his results:

    3dmark05 = 4565
    3dmark06 = 2685

    Its funny, X1600 is clearly the winner in 05, but 7600 is clearly the winner in 06. I guess we'll have to wait for 07 to see who gets the best 2 out of 3.

    Either way, both amazing machines.

    3dmark 05
    core = 510
    mem = 400
    score = 4197

    will update again :)

    Update
    Core = 525
    Mem = 400
    Score = 4197

    i dont get that :S but it seems the mem is slower than the core so having a faster core makes no difference. I'll go back down to 510 and increase mem and check

    Zydus I noticed at around 527 core it gets artifacts in 3dmark06, I tried it at both 521 and 524 and had no difference, I think the sweetspot is around 521 core.

    I did manage to beat my PMed scores to Darrick slightly I'll try it a few more times before I sleep but this is probably the maximum, the memory might go higher but its being quirky.

    Yeah I just ran a few more tests, not going to take the time to upload them but its legit. I got slight improvements again. Memory wouldn't rise above 461 no matter what I tried, but I managed to get the core to 524 and 527 without artifacts

    Results were:
    524/461

    3dmark05 = 4601
    3dmark06 = 2701

    527/461

    3dmark05 = 4599
    3dmark06 = 2702

    Seems to be about the maximum I can get without any real risks involved.

    I clocked the temp during both tests this time

    3dmark05 highest temp was 67c
    3dmark06 highest temp was 65c

    I couldn't get my mem to go higher than 425 :S

    426 and coolbits wouldn't let me apply the settings. Also i had to revert back to 84.26 before coolbits would work properly.

    With core at 525 and mem at 425 i was getting tearing and artifacts. This was when my gpu temp is only at 48 :D.

    I managed that by putting laptop directly on top of the AC vent in my room and ligned up the vents. My idle cpu temp was at 37 lol.

    But yeah i guess mine and darrick's dont really wanna be overclocked

    2625 on '06 @ 524/426. Memory won't go past that (that I've seen) but the core will; if I push the core higher though it'll freeze every once in a while during prolonged gaming.

    All this with the GPU at about 60C

    I'm running a "crippled" machine in comparison, with 1x1GB 533MHz RAM.

    I'm running 3DMark06 right now @ 540/429, we'll see how that score turns out, on test 2 the max gpu temp recorded is 63C.

    I ran 05 earlier and got 4433 at 530/429. Coolbits says the max on my memory is 429 so yea I won't bother going past it.
