so i was thinking of getting a 5.1 set (cheap x-540)for this laptop g51vx-a1 and know the g51 has three input/output jacks for audio (headset/spdif/mic) now my question is can i connect the three prong connector for example on the logitech x-540 (green/black/pinkish) to these plugs and will i get 5.1 sound? if so which way do they go in? the plugs aren't color coded.
In anycase since i don't want to get an expensive digital 5.1/7.1 set and i may just get a cheaper home theatre set for spdif if I cant. though i could also pick up a x-fi card for the empty slot
any info is appreciated
thanks

no i pretty sure you need a converter for the second plug. the top one is headphone jack, bottom one is mic jack and middle one is for spdif or something. you can plug the color jacks into the three sockets.

The 5.1 is output via the SPDIF, only SPDIF will give you 5.1, no other plug or plug combo will.

Yea we can plug it in, but does it give 5.1? I'd give it a whirl if I had a set of computer 5.1s to try :/ all I have is home theater.
I want to know if it does or doesn't so I don't waste time going out to buy a set -
5.1 is output through the spdif as digital, I want to know if analog 3 jack works

No, they wont. You'll either need to go through the SPDIF supported 3.5mm port, or get an external USB soundcard.
I got this thing right here:

It works like a charm. -
you cant plug in the 3 prongs like a desktop but you can emulate 5.1 using your stereos using the eax 3d surround option (by buying a connector which you can get from logitech or other auction stores)
