hello all, i am a G1S owner and i am really glad that i bought it. Does G1s support 5.1 speakers? will i be able to use all 5 speakers?

im looking at these 5.1 by logitech: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/sp...s/315&cl=ca,en

found a place where they sell both Z2300(2.1) and Z5300(5.1) for about the same price.
    Any suggestions?
    thank you!

Pretty sure it's only 2 stereo. Have to buy a addoncard for 5.1 but I don't know where.

Yes, the G1S has S/PDIF, which allows it to output digital audio to 5.1 surround speakers. You'll need, in addition to the notebook and speakers, a toslink cable with an optical minijack adapter. Plug the minijack into the audio-out port and the other end of the cable into the optical input of the speakers, and you're set! :)

The G1S has built in SPDIF? Ha... didn't even notice. Learn something new every day! Yep... I wouldn't spend the extra either.

I think you would still need something else. I don't think the Z5300 has a nice optical input.

Well then, you need something with an optical input.

IIRC, all ASUS notebooks in the past 3~ years had S/PDIF.

My old Z70v had it, the Z70va and V6va has it too. No digital speakers so I can't make use of it :p
