    Hi,

I have recently noticed my GPU is not rendering video. Every player on my Asus N75SL is using software rendering. This means the video playback is very bad and choppy as my i5 is always on 100% for all 4 cores.

I have tried reinstalling integrated graphics drivers, NVidia drivers, flash, Silverlight, everything. I have also tried older drivers 304.xx and still same issue. Gaming is fine, the dedicated GPU is always used.

The option is there for all my players for hardware based video rendering, and they are all also ticked. But none of my players actually use it, I can tell from my GPU windows gadgets.

When looking at flash player its also saying its using software based video rendering.

I can't 100% confirm, but I'm pretty sure it was working before and all I had done was update to latest NVidia drivers.

I'm hoping a GPU/NVidia expert can help on here!

    Windows 7 64bit
    GT 635m 2GB
    Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics

Hi i have the solution for you !

Remove every codecs you have then install this : https://code.google.com/p/lavfilters/downloads/detail?name=LAVFilters-0.55.3.exe

Once it is install open Lav Video Configuration and in the hardware acceleration field set Intel Quick Sync. You can force all video formats in the "Format" Tab as Lav filters is currently the best audio and video free decoding stuff

This will permit you to take advantage of the GPU power. you may have something like 15% CPU usage after :)

If you want to use your nvidia gpu (eats more power) you can also go into the nvidia display panel and for your disered application (careful cause if it countains "player" in the name nvidia won't allow you to for the nvidia gpu on it. To do so just rename it to something that doesn't contains "player" in it.) Then set Lav Video Decoder to use CUVID acceleration

I'd also advice you to use MPC-HC. To go in its external filters and force Lav video decoder to be used (option -->external filters --> you select lav video and tick "prefer") and use quicksync as it will more powerfull and less ressource eating that the CUDA of you nvidia discrete GPU

    Hi there flashmp3,

I followed your instructions and you solved my problem

My GPU gadget doesn't show that the gpu is working though, it definitely uses GPU this method? I have it set to nvidia CUVID because I don't care about power management, it can use my GPU as much as it wants.

I tried 1080p vids on YouTube, QuickTime and Netflix silver light they are all silky smooth and no more then 20% usage per core in my CPU.

Upon starting civilisation 5 there is also a intro video that plays which also used to stutter, that's also solved

Just a little shame it seems more of a workaround than problem solve but its very seamless and minimal so I'm glad.

I wonder why my GPU video acceleration stopped working in the first place

    Many thanks.

    Hi,

It's not a workaround. To read HD files, you need a codec capable to handle the H264 files. Lav Filters is a set of codecs that permit to decode almost all formats. It's the free best set of codecs. His power is that it can take advantage of the GPU power. You can verify that you GPU is working by enabling the Lav Video tray icon. When you open a hd video a lav video notification will appear close to the time and date in the lower right part. As you have set Cuvid you'll be able to see that cuvid is in use. I also recommand you to download Win7dsfilter to force Lav video decoder to decode all video formats.

At the first place you might have installed or removed a codec. This had the effect not to use you GPU power anymore
