The title pretty much tells the story, I was wondering if this is normal. Some of the processes that are using the most memory include:
Desktop Window Manager
Internet Explorer
Windows Explorer
Windows Sidebar
Microsoft Outlook
Windows Sidebar (again)
ACEngSvr.exe?

Vista does use more processes than XP... something to get used to, I suppose (I used to run 28 processes on XP, so it was a shock for me to see in the mid 60s with Vista). Vista also caches things in your RAM for faster loading (ala SuperFetch). So, although you see more RAM being used, it is more efficient (no point in having 3 GB of RAM if it is never being used). In the above list, you don't need to use the Windows Sidebar (I turned it off as there were no gadgets that I particularly found useful). Also, if you don't use Outlook to manage email, then you can get rid of that too.

Yea, well I dont use Outlook only because when I tried to set it up with my msn email it kept saying I needed a subscription and when i followed the link it just took me to my email, outlook was screwed up. When I go to end the process it says my systgem could become unstable though, so I'm worried about doint that.

That's pretty horrible. I see computers running vista with 1gb of ram and they have about 40-50% ram usage and around 40-50 processes.
I guess if the computer runs well it doesn't really matter, and you do have the hardware for such extensive usage. But still tho, those numbers are on the high side. But like I said, if ur computer runs smooth then who cares, their just numbers. It's all about smooth and problem free computing, regardless of what numbers are in the background. -

79 processes running 1 gb used (out of 3)

Vista right? thats totally normal, the more memory you have the more it uses. Its just using unused memory. Soon as you launch a game or application that needs the memory it will release it.
