This is a newbie question but I can't find the answer. What is the utility to have 800MHz FSB when the DDR2 memory is only at 667Mhz? If I buy the G2S, can I change later my memory to 800Mhz?

Yes, 800mhz ram just isn't available yet, will be soon.

You will most likely be limited to DDR2-667 on the G2S. However, you will benefit from new Santa Rosa features such as 800FSB, Turbo Memory (Robson) and Wireless-N (Draft-N for now).

even faster FSB, but laptop will still work backforward to 667Mhz

Well, people are always buying "for the future" in hopes their machine will be good for a long time... sure it seems useless now, but 800MHz DDR2 RAM will be out eventually for notebooks, and when that happens, your laptop will be able to use it

The PM965 chipset only supports up to 667MHz for the RAM. If Asus is following specifications then no you won't be able to use 800MHz RAM.

#1. DDR2 800mhz IS AVAILABLE on Newegg.com (In the SODIMM flavor yes)
#2. FSB does not have to match RAM speeds. It never does, and it won't ever again. Those were the days of the Athlon 64...
#3. 800mhz FSB will help performance, as will increased RAM speeds. It's hard to so how much though, though combined maybe 5%. -

Both mujtaba and loopty pointed this out, but then the next 2 posters seemed to ignore them, so I want to make it clear.
800MHz RAM will do NO GOOD for you, even when it becomes more widely available, because the chipset does not go that fast. The 965 chipset, and thus the RAM, is limited to 667MHz, period. -
Unless the manufacturer starts overclocking the RAM modules.
Anyway I don't think the performance gain for 667 -> 800 will be that much noticeable.
800Mhz FSB is useless for now?
