Nvidia prepares the release of the GeForce 8800M GTX video card for notebooks, the leaked Alienware’s laptop specifications revealed.
According to the information published on Alienware.com, the PC maker will unveil the 15.4-inch Area-51 m15x featuring the optional single Nvidia 8800M GTX and the 17-inch Area-51 m17x with an option of two of these video cards operating in SLI mode.
Along with 512MB of dedicated video memory, the Nvidia GeForce (”Go”8800M GTX utilizes a 256-bit memory interface and 96 stream processors. The core clock, shader clock, and memory clock are 500MHz, 1250MHz, and 800MHz respectively.
For comparison, the desktop computer version - the GeForce 8800 GTX GPU - has a 384-bit memory interface and 128 stream processors, while the core, shaders, and memory are clocked at 575MHz, 1350MHz, and 900MHz respectively. However, the 8800M GTX is expected to be the most powerful laptop-use video card offering from Nvidia.
The 8800M GTX is DirectX 10-compatible and incorporates a dedicated processor for HD DVD and Blu-Ray video decoding.
The Alienware Area-51 m15x and Area-51 m17x are both based on the Intel Core 2 Duo processing technology. These notebooks will start at $1,399 and $2,199 respectively.
I think that it is the time for us to ask Asus's special upgrades. Since VGAs in our notebooks are almost impossible to be replaced or upgraded manually. The only way is to complain about new upgrades which support us to enhance our notebooks. According to article, this card is suitable for 15.4 inches and 17 inches notebooks; therefore, this is the best card to satisfy us playing games.

Your post is a little confusing, Are you saying you want Asus to upgrade your graphics card in your current notebook? I suppose if you paid them enough they might consider it, But keep in mind, The 8800 draws more power and generates alot of heat, so if you put it in the G1S or V1S they would probally melt, they both get aweful battery life as it is, and they both have heat issues. The c90 would be an option and I think they will probally release a 8800 card for it.
The G1s and V1s both have upgradeable GPUs, but its some weird proprietary MXM version, So it would need to be model specific. -
I have got some good views in your reply, but I dont think that 8800M GTX generates a lot of heat like 8800GTX. For some reason, it is weaker than 8800GTX in desktop. According to 3dmark06, 8800M GTX scores 9417 points, but 8800GTX scores about 12.000 points (corrected this points). -
Where are you geting these numbers from? I havent seen the 8800m benchmarked yet, keep in mind it is very different to the desktop version of the 8800, It uses more power than the 8600m, Therefore it generates more heat.
By the way, there is no 8800m GT, Theres the GTX and GTS models. The 8600GT uses 22w, the 8800GTS uses 35w, and the 8800GTX uses 37w, Thats almost double what the 8600GT uses. -
Sorry for the spelling mistake

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Yes but your comparing a desktops cooling to a notebooks which is alot more constrained. I have a c90 and would love to see an 8800 but most of the early reports are that its mxm III. Its wishful thinking until more concrete info comes in.

Okay those benchmarks are for DESKTOP cards, not laptop cards, there is a massive performance difference between the two.
-
Especially since the 8800M GTX has lower specs than the desktop GTS.
The G92 does not heat as much but still more than a 8600GTS -
8800M GTX has specs just above the desktop 8800 GTS. It's the same 96 stream processors, same core speed, except the shader speed on the 8800M GTX is 1.25Ghz and on the 8800 GTS (Desktop) its 1.2Ghz.
-
The desktop has a 320bits bus while the mobile is 256bits
-
What!?
SO it is possible to change the gpu in the G1S/G2S? -
-
Guys over at MXM upgrade managed to stuff a 7900gs into the Z84JP.
Other MXM ASUS, are the A4S and Z81, both of which have been outfitted with a X1800 successfully. And are all pre-rev2.
(And yes, the whole MXM I/II/III Rev.1.X/2.0/2.1 bit gets quite irritatingly confusing.) -
Okey!
To bad it isn't doable. Should be great to have a 8800 in the G2S. The 8600 feels outdated right now -
What make you think that Asus will probably release a 8800 card for it?
Please prove me wrong. -
There is always hope. The 8800M is rumored to be n a 15.4'' from Alienware
And Asus said they would if it's possible.
