My first test of a new fully charged 9 cell battery on my w7j provides nearly 5 hours of use (4:58). P4G battery saving mode, bluetooth off, wi fi on, camera disabled. Screen brightness midway.

Aestheitcs: The battery sticks out the rear of the notebook about 1/2 an inch. It also has a slight wiggle to it even though I locked it in.

Cost $140 plus shipping from Proportable.

Conclusion: five hours of use: its worth it!

I like the W7's design more than the old S5 where the system was designed for a 3 cell to sit flush and obviously because there were motherboard restrictions as well....... and the 9 cell was 6600mAh.. and stuck out 1.5"........ I'd love to see more life out of the 7800mAh battery, but without getting rid of the graphics card, that would be impossible........ If we could ditch that, this battery could get us 7 hours.

I wouldn't worry about the wobble... although I know what you're talking about and it's not much.... I've seen sony laptops whose extended battery woobles 3 times that and is still "normal"...... What's nice about all of the designs of the Asus systems with extended batteries is that not only do that clip into the front of the hole... but they're supported on the sides well....... and if the systems could support the 9 cell when it was only in the system 3/4" and stuck out 1.5"....... then it can certainly handle it when 1" is in the system and 1/2" is sticking out.

YOu know what's really odd though? Some of those Dell laptops with like the X1400 and 9 cells get about 6hrs battery life at the same settings as an ASUS... And the 7400 and X1400 use roughly the same power..

I just dont understand why they can squeeze out one more hour.. On bigger screens (Eg the E1505)

That battery life on the W7J with the 9-cell is not impressive, to be honest....

I think 5 hours is pretty good! I'll definitely have to pick one of these up at some point.

Flying cross country or to Europe in coach, an AC adapter is not an option. I'll take 2 x 9 cell batteries to get the job done.

At the moment you can't even take your notebook with you as carry on. For good reason of course but it still sucks.

Can someone point me out to a news source about the no notebook thing? I only read things about liquids and gels, but haven't seen anything about notebook restrictions?

I used to take a 9 cell with my on my S5 and I got close to 8 hours out of it and with dvd's ripped onto my hard drive, I still got a good 6:30-7:00 of it......

My advice if you don't do it often, step up to first class and plug it in! I F&$*(#$@$ hate economy seats...... One time I got back from Europe and I'm sitting on the tarmac in Philly and this little girl from Kenya wacked me across the face with a metal lunchbox..... Doesn't have anything to do with batteries, but maybe it'll be funny to someone... two years later I still don't find it amuzing...

The no notebook (any carry on in fact) thing is flying from the UK. Perhaps also to the UK but I'm not sure about that one. I don't think it applies to domestic US flights or flight to and form other European countries.

Why did she do that and if it was a little girl how much could it have hurt?

That's a new rule as of when?

The girl had to be 3-4..... I don't know, they were flying a family of what had to be 15 of them to the states and the box must have been full of lead.. I don't know.... but when you're looking straight ahead and someone does a 360, and whacks you right under your eye as if they're launching a shot putt...... I can still feel it when I think about it.

yeah, the no notebook (and other electronics thing) isn't the US. I have a flight tommorrow and just called my airlines to double check what's being restricted now. In the US, so far it's just liquids/gels.. although there are certain politicians who want to expand it to cover electronics as well (cell phones, notebooks, mp3 players, etc).

hmmm... thats... more then i thought.

the 6 cell gets 3 hours, roughly, on soft use.

shouldnt the 9 cell get an extra half of 6cell? (in other words, 3cells more.... so... 3 hrs on 6, would be 1.5hrs on a 3cell... so the 9 should be 3cells more then the 6, and thus, 3hours, plus, 1.5 hours...)

but its higher then 4.30total. 4.58... nearly 5hrs!! Thats good! although i am curious about the question someone asked earlier, dell's with the x1400 and larger screens getting more battery life out of a 9cell.

Is that true? o_O i wonder if it is...what would cause that.

These have higher capacity cells... the 5 hour figure is the same as the estimates made in this thread

I get regular updates from Federal agencies. All the alerts outlines prohibitions on liquids, gels, not notebooks.

The general rule is if you try to carry on a notebook, they will ask you to take it out of the bag and place it in the tray for scanning. After that the scan they will ask that you power on the notebook so they know it is indeed a working notebook.

Hi, what do you mean by webcam disabled? Like simply not using it?

Even when not in use, the webcam on the W7 draws power first discovered by a heat presence on the lid of the computer. There is a way to disable it and gain a small amount of battary time in the computer settings.

it also depends where you are flying from, flying from US you can take your laptop, but flying from the UK they will not let you, they even make you put your cellphone in checkin!

You could build a hard case like this, it is a good precaution and great protection.

Wow that is ... horrible looking. I think it would be better to just carry around a spare battery instead of having that protrusion scare people away. :p

What kind of weight impact should I be expecting with the larger battery?
Also, what is the average battery life on just the six cell?
