Despite using the lowest power setting and dim screen, I'm still finding my 6-cell battery has pretty poor battery life.
So I'm thinking of trying to get the 9-cell one, but I can't find it anywhere in the UK.
At the end of July, I'm going to Canada for 3 weeks (specifically, Calgary); while I'm there, I'll also visit friends who will have recnetly driven up from the U.S.
So: anyone know a shop in Calgary that is likely to have this battery in stock where I could just go and physically buy it? I need to make sure it's in stock before I go, though, as there won't be time to order it - so a shop with pretty good customer service would be helpful! (I can possibly get someone to go in and order it now, though, if needed). What shops would be best??
Or: I can look into online ordering, either from a Canadian or an American shop. Again I have to be sure that they are either in stock or that they'll tell me immediately that they're not, unlike some online retailers that take your money and then a week later email to say the product's not available! Delivery charges are also a factor (though I'd be ordering from a Canadian source for delivery to Canada, and an American source for devliery to the US, so I'm not worried about cross-border charges!). Another problem is that I have to find a company that will a) accept credit/debit cards that are not registered in the US/Canada (many companies won't accept these), and b) will accept a card with different billing and delivery addresses for the first order (many companies will only do this on second and subsequent orders).
So, do you have any recommendations of shops that fit these criteria? Easiest would be to just go to a shop and buy it, but if it's lots more expensive that way, I don't mind ordering online, if I can find a company that'll accept my order. I don't really know anything at all about Canadian or American computer shops, so all information welcome!
(in the worst case, I could always get someone with a Canadian credit card to order it online for me, but that would be somewhat awkward).

Just curious because I am undecided between purchasing the 6 and 9 cell and I am leaning more towards the 6-cell... what kind of battery life are you getting in your 6-cell?
btw... here is a link to huge number of ASUS notebook retailers in the US and Canada, hope it helps.

About 3 hours, using the CD-ROM, email, websurfing, etc, nothing heavy duty. This is on the lowest Power4Gear setting, with the screen dimmed quite low. When I'm using it more intensively, or outside where I have to have the screen brighter, it's less. The 6-cell looks a lot better, I think, and it's much lighter. I like the look of the little tiny one that came with the laptop, but that seems to last no time at all!! (it's this blasted always-on nosiy fan that's eating up all the power, I expect!)
Anyone have any experience with any of those retailers? I didn't recognise any of the names, but I've only been at places like Future Shop and stuff when I've been in Calgary, and I guess Asus is a bit too specialised for them. One of them MemoryExpress, looked like it had an Alberta dialling code, but the link was broken. What about any of the online ones? The couple that I looked at wouldn't take non-north american credit cards. Any experience with any of them? I think it'll be easier if I could find somewhere that I could physically go to in Calgary, if anyone has any further suggestions, but I'll still consider the online solution, delivered to my American friends, if it's cheaper/jsut as easy. -
There this but it's in Vancouver

I looked around at http://www.computerrack.ca/ but I couldnt find anything but they are located in Calgary. -
Thanks for the link. No international credit cards accepted, but if I had to I could get someone to order it for me, so it's good to know they are available!

Just bringing this up again in case any of the Canadians on the board haven't seen it and have any helpful advice, especially any Calgarians!!
Or any Canadians/Americans who've used online ordering and know for sure which are reputable sites, and better yet, that take international credit cards... -
I hope that this is accurate, but it is hearsay so I cannot guarantee it. From this post, it seems that someone from singapore bought a notebook from agearnotebooks and had it shipped to singapore. My guess is that agearnotebooks thus may be more open to international purchases/credit cards. Good luck!
