How does the 9800gs in Asus compare to the 9800 gts in the Gateways.

The 9800M GTS in the gateways will perform slightly better in games.
-
yep it's a underclocked 9800 gts
-
The GTS is just an overclocked GS anyway, isn't it?
-
Yeah, its a slight difference. You will only notice a small increase.

johnapimp inb4 me lol...
You could probably get the same/better performance if you overclocked the GS. -
Thanks all!
But wait
Mac's now come with pretentious Glasses. Must rethink my decision -
ARGH!? Glasses too? Regretting buying my netbook.
BUT
on topic now, yes, you can just overclock the GS to the clocks of the GTS and get similar performance BUT there's probably good reason why the GS is used and not the GTS. 1, probably production costs but also the cooling system in the 15.4" mightn't be as good as the one in the Gateway models. So keep that in mind when you overclock. -
If you have a 25W "P" processor, the chances of a safe OC are better since you should have an extra 10W of thermal headroom over the ones with a "T" processor. The problem with going from a GS to a GTS is that not only are the clocks higher, but the voltage is also higher to support those clock speeds, and bumping the voltage is the fastest way to generate more heat. Tavara seems to have the most success in doing the GTS mod with ridiculously cool temps, but he(?) has a 25W CPU.

Theres an easy way to overclock the 9800M GS to a GTS, you just flash the VBIOS to GTS clocks. This is thread to do it.

This is the 9800M GS overclocking thread:

I'd make sure you clean the vents every few months, (well, at least check if they need cleaning) and invest in a notebook cooler. Can't hurt if you're overclocking, and we all like lower temps anyways.

Look my benchmark
9800gs?
