I have a G50vt-x1 (best buy) w/Vista 64 that didn't qualify for the free upgrade. So I purchased the Win 7 upgrade. I wanted to see if there was any problems I might run into BEFORE I upgrade. I have been looking around the Asus Forum and this one for info on the install process.
What I brought back from this is that....well....terrifying. Extra drivers, boot up problems, etc. I just want a smooth transition .. if possible.
Is there a thread somewhere that has a breakdown of the process for the upgrade. I used the search and was left wanting.
Or can I purchase the disks from Asus?

I did an 50vt-x5...no real issues. Fresh install and then go to the asus website to pickup all the drivers.

    Definitely worth the upgrade

+1 for clean install. You can even keep your file structure intact when you do a full clean install, as it will put everything from Vista into a folder called "Windows.old." After the upgrade, you can just cut and paste your original documents/pictures/etc from the windows.old/users/username/foldername directory into your current documents/pictures/etc directory. Not sure if I made that confusing, but my point here is if you have data you want to keep on the C: drive, you can still do a clean install.

You can continue with full install without any backup like dtd00d said.

All content and subfolders of "Program files", "Windows", and "Documents and Settings" from old windows will be put in a folder called "Windows.old" on the drive where you install your Windows 7.

Thanks guys. I guess if it doesn't work, I can always do the F9 route back to the beginning.

    Thanks again

i did a upgrade install on my g50vt x5 and everything is fine :) i just wanted everything be the same.

but ya like other said clean install is usely the best and it even keeps your stuff in windows old folder just dont format before install.
