Before I looked at the CeBit thread I was trying to just pick between what we already have released and what we were sure to get soon. Mainly
    12": Z33ae
    13": Z35f (hopefully coming soon)
    14": Z62f/3a

And was pretty sure I will go with the compromise, Z35f. Mainly becuase of portability/battery life , decent screen size for long use, and the newer core duo (a plus for me).

But now I am lost if any of those announced models (at CeBit) should also be considered in my list. BUT will any of them even be here with in a month or even less, and what will come to the US??? If not then I need not look any further, and just work with what is currently here or confirmed coming soon.

    Asus is confusing

Don't take my word for it, but the models you saw in the CeBit thread probably won't be here for another month AT LEAST... with the exception of the V6J and the W2J I think.
All the rest probably won't be here until May/beyond...

    Barebones, or ENSEMBLE units?

As for when.....don't count on their ETA's, they are.....well, as reliable as....err...plainly, the ETA's are there just to make it sound better then....coming soon? :p

I don't mind either, although I would prefer the barebones for the lower cost, but if I have to pay more to get what I want, then ok!

Heh...this is off topic, but coriolis, I notice that you always capitalize "Ensemble". :)

Yea, just a habit, I guess people would think of it as the name for those laptops, not just a noun...or something. Not that there is another meaning for it, perhaps someone does :)

And get an ENSEMBLE, Q :D

I know you waaaant one ;)

W7J and Z35F are both 13" WXGAs? Is one ensemble and other barebone??

Nope. First it was Z63, then I thought I'd wait for Z62 to get the new core, then the Z35f looked better because of portability with same specs, and so was waiting for it to arrive, which should be anytime now.
But the Cebit release of tons of models made me doubt my choice again. But I have to have something for sure by early april, NO more delays

The picture is kinda blurry, but did anyone here manage to get the weight and dimensions of the W7J?

    31x22x unknown thickness. 1.95kg
That's what I could get from the blurred pic

Btw it seems to closely resemble the W6a, google that for a lot of pictures.

BUT WHEN ?!? :( I cannot wait a lot for it. And it seems they aren't coming any time soon. I am guessing I'll have to skip that option and just get something from what's available now. Hopefully the Z35f will come on time!

I'm with you. When the spring models were announced a few months ago the z35f by far the most interesting to me but we seem to be in the minority compared to the w3j and v6j. I think I'd rather have a 14" widescreen but 5.5 lbs is too heavy coming from my 4.3lb s7020.

Granted, it's not brushed aluminum, but my feeling is that it's not really that ugly a color. Better weight than the W3J, 1.95kg ~ 4.3 lbs., 22% lighter. Certainly, any ASUS would be better than the Vaio SZ series. If it were available today, I might get it rather than the W3J I have my eyes on.

I remember justin saying it will most likely come in black color to the american market, so that to set it apart a bit from the current w5f. So I guess black will be cool looking

    59hardware.net's hi-res shots of the W7J (and F2J).
though it's in French, the specs are pretty easy to divine from the given numbers. the first link at the bottom will take you to their CeBIT 2006 photo album where a few more Asus notebooks are lurking.

they have switched the Fn and Ctrl keys...
