hey guys sorry if my first post seems kinda noobish...
i am looking at this barebone laptop:
http://www.avadirect.com/product_details_parts.asp?PRID=9794
and this processor:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819111003
i kind of assumed the two would work together, because for this barebone:
http://www.avadirect.com/product_details_parts.asp?PRID=11216
the t8100 is listed as compatable, and the z37 and s96 seem to be about the same internally besides the different gfx card, but upon further analysis the z37 does not list itself as compatable with the t8100.... can anyone help me out on whether or not the t8100 will work in the z37?
also, i made the premature assumption of assuming it had an optical drive with it... but do i need one of those as well?
thanks in advance and sorry im so noobish![]()

It will work with the Z37s. You might need a simply BIOS update, but should be pretty easy to do.
You don't need to purchase an ODD, as it comes with the barebone. -
Optical Drive: You'd rather call this company to make it clear.
Based on information, DVD is optional. It looks like they want to charge you extra.
CPU: It looks trouble free to mate T8100 with PM 965 BUT there are exceptions too. Most notorious is COMPAL JFL90 that does not allow to upgrade CPU to Penryn. Check COMPAL forum
(If I'd you I'd stay with T 7500)
Everybody needs optical drive - if not internal, than external. Internal is WAY BETTER -
i think the t8100 will work.... after some internet searching it seems that people have succesfully done this with a bios flash. i would much rather have a santa rosa. also, i am thinking i will just get an optical drive off of newegg.... i doubt this one has one, but i will probably call.
also, is avadirect a reputable site? ive been reading around on the internet and have heard some bad things about them.... -
There are some reputable online stores and they post some reviews in here that helps the business. Check Gentech, XoticPC, some others.
I've mentioned COMPAL brand with Penryn problem. The problem was not a BIOS related but something related to MoBo design that made this NB incompatible with Penryn despite of compatible chipset -
yea, people have managed to flash the bios up to a penryn one with the z37... asus even lists the bios on its website as the santa rosa refresh
i have read some good, and some real real bad things about avadirect, and i found interproshop, which is cheaper anyways, and i think i am going to go with them. xotic pc also has this barebone, but its a lot more money... -
Good luck in your endeavor.
This is far more decent and honest in compare with buying a new NB just to play with it as barebone
a couple of questions
