Hello everyone![]()
Im planning to upgrade my Asus M50vm-A1 to the G51J but i have a few important questions i would like to ask:
1. How much is the temperature in the GPU and CPU when doing light tasks like surfing the web? What about when gaming?
2. Is it noisy when surfing the web? What about when gaming?
3. Do i benefit from installing 2 SSDs instead of 2 HDDs? By that im wondering if the temperature will drop since the SSD dont get as hot as HDD. Either way im going to purchase 2 SSDs .
Im also planning to apply the compound gentechpc are using on to the GPU/CPU. Noise and heat is really important for me so that is why im asking. I want a quiet notebook when surfing but i dont care so much about a little noise when gaming. please help me![]()

1. This varies quite a bit from person to person. When i first got mine my idle/surfing temperaterss were around 56-58, and maxed out at 88 while gaming. Now it's 66-72 while surfing, and 96 max while gaming. This is too hot, and i also got the thermal compound applied when i bought it.
2. It's not very noisy at all really, when the fan maxes out, you can hear it, but it's pretty reasonable level of noise. Problem is that the speakers are so low, that sometimes it fights with the fan noise while gaming. Surfing, it's quiet.
3. I doubt that would make any difference at all heat wise. -
Wow, over 10 degree celsius increase? That can`t be right can it?
Also why wont the SSD lower the system temperature? Does it not rundt cooler than HDD? -
There would be difference, but the differences would be negligible. The problem is that the G51 (both J and VX) uses the same chassis as the G50 series (1 fan cooling both the CPU and the GPU). This isn't ideal as the GTX 260M runs a lot hotter than the 9800M. Hence heat is probably one of the biggest issues with the G51 models. Of course, if you got a cooling pad and able to lower the temps under 90C while gaming, then you're fine and dandy since the G51s are built to sustain heat.
