I am thinking of buying an A8JS-4S023P (from MilestonePC) and had a few questions for A8Js owners:

    (1) How many RAM slots does the system come with and where are they located? I read some customer reviews of the A8JS-4S204C on NewEgg.com where some people said that their A8Js only had one memory slot.
Also, are the RAM slots located on the underside of the laptop? I just want to make sure that none of the slots are underneath the keyboard like they are on some of the current Dell models.

    (2) Is ASUS still using AUO LCD screens in the A8Js? Or are they using LCD screen from other manufacturers like CMO or LG? I've read too many bad reviews of AUO made LCDs but it appears that there's not much choice in this matter.

    (3) Does the A8JS come with the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG wireless NIC standard? Or is it some other Intel wireless NIC?

    Thanks!

There are two slots, as for where, I'm not too sure. But it could be under the keyboard, and it's not really that hard on ASUS notebooks to dissemble the keyboard area, just a few screws and a few tabs.

As for the screen, ASUS stopped producing the A8js a few months back, as the newer A8sc/A8sv came out recently. As for the new units, I have yet to see a review on it, so I don't know about the screen. Traditionally, 14" screens suck, no matter what brand.

I believe it does have that wireless card.

    (1) The A8js definately has two slots. I bought mine from newegg as well back in May, and I was confused by those people's posts. I would not have bought it if the machine only had one RAM slot. Luckily though, I trusted newegg's specs and not random user comments. The slot is not "under the keyboard." There is a RAM module bay under the computer that requires the unscrewing of 4 small screws. I did not even power on the A8js without first loading it up with 2 GB of RAM. It should not take more than a minute. Just be sure that it "clicks" in. You'll know when it's in correctly. If you are guessing as to whether or not it is in yet, keep trying.

    (2) I too had the same worry. The A8js used to have the AUO screen, but the ones that newegg is selling now, and has been for months, have the CMO screen. It's not fantastic, but it's not terrible. There is definately some graininess against white backgrounds, but I am still overall pleased with the screen.

    (3) Simple answer, yes, it comes with the 3945ABG, and it works fine.

    Hope this helps!

I have the AUO screen and it mostly works fine indoor. Vertical viewing angle is a bit limited so you'll have ot set it just right but once set, you should be ok. The glossy screen is distracting outdoor and is not very bright but works ok if you can find a shaded spot.Overall, I like my A8Js but I maybe temped to get a F8 for the 8600GT.

I just finished reading all 117 pages of the A8Js owners lounge thread... whew! The single most frequently reported issue seems to be the LCD screen (AUO or CMO) and what LCD you get seems to be pretty variable and random!

I have some decisions to make... thanks for the info guys. :)

Well somewhere along the line they figured out which models in the us had the cmo screen.

Youve got to figure in europe the machine was $500 more and it had the cmo screen.

The cmo screen is better. Ive seen people say it sucks too but Ive never heard someone say they liked the auo screen better.

I can get the cmo screen online for $168 and the auo screen for 200$ and a samsung screen for $168. But even though its more expensive I feel its the worst one. It is the brightest though.

Id wait for the f8 though personally. Its 1549 full retail, think about what you get for the price difference though.

I just started bioshock and it runs great but Im dying to see it in dx10.

Im halfway thinking of getting an f8 but it seems retarded to buy a new laptop every year.

I'm thinking about the F8 also. At that price, it's definitely worth upgrade from the A8Js.

I have to find out what the F8 will retail for here in Canada but it might be out of my budget.

The more I think about it, as long as I get a good LCD screen the A8JS seems to have the most bang for buck.

Thanks for all the info guys.
    Cheers,
