    1. What is really the exact weight of the W3J? I've seen a few variations in weight.. ive seen 2kg which is 4.85 lb but that doesnt seem right? and ive heard 5.5 lb and also seen 5lb with the travel bay in...so im quite confused

    2. As for the dimensions, is this laptop truely portable.. can I take it to school daily..will it withstand the beatings of being in my backpack [in a sleeve] along with text books/ binders..

    3. Issues with the screen- I've heard that the x1600 graphics causes grainyness, Is this true?
-Can this laptop be used outdoors/in direct sun with the glossy display.

-And is there enough realestate to play multiple tables of Poker? say 4 tables with clarity** -This is VERY important

    4. Does the system come with 2 batteries? 4 cell and 8 cell?

    5. Should I expect prices to go down with back to school deals around the corner?

    6. And lastly is it better to buy from a local dealer or an online dealer [save taxes]... i mean how would the warranty work with an online dealer if something went wrong?

Thank you very much for your help.

    1. It weighs in at 5lbs without the optical drive and 5.5lbs with it.

    2. ASUS is top of the line build quality, so if it can't stand being beated around in your bag the only thing better to get would be something like a thinkpad or those heavy industrial laptops. But in terms of notebooks like Dell, HP, and many others it's far superior. Just make sure you buy a nice sleeve.

    3. There's always room to play multiple tables of poker, it all depends on your client and how large you want the tables to be on your screen. But if you want more realestate you'll be sacrificing portability.

    4. One Battery, 8 cell. You can purchase a 6 cell that goes into where the optical drive is.

    5. I wouldn't count on prices going down with school coming up.

6.You can only buy online. The regular warranty goes through ASUS not the dealer. So if something goes wrong you have to go through ASUS.

Next time doo some forum searching and you'll find your answers.

thanks, I have been doing alot of reading on it just wanted to have these answers confirmed.

And in my city [Toronto] there are actually quite a few Asus dealers, It was my understanding though that if something goes wrong you bring your laptop to the dealer and they deal with and send it to the manufacturer [asus] on your behalf?

Its just that taxes will account for almost $300 here, if I buy it out of province I would save around $150..

    1. Including the 8 cell battery, aproximatley it weights 5.5 LB, it will not more than 6 LB.
    2. 14.1" is portable, but not very protable if we compare with a 12" or less. For going to school, 14" screen brings it to a lecture hall, lab or classroom will not take much space on the table when taking some notes.
    3. Grainyness should not an issue in all the W3j model, we still have to test and accumulate all the information and result. Glossy display can let you see the screen clearly outdoor in direct sunshine.
    4. No, it only comes with a 8 cell battery.
    5. Asus doesn't offer this promotion for back to school periods, might be another brand provide a mail-in rebate offer.
    6. The user must contact Asus service center wherever you purchase from local dealer or online dealer. If your local are doesn't have any a Asus service center, you have to ship it to a service center location that is near to your place.

    Cheers

From my understanding it does. I haven't heard of a 4 cell for the W3J.

From business point of view, all promotion is the result of over stock, if something is hard to get, why promote? Like W3J.

Before I used to stock up allot when factories had promotions, now I stop doing that, my logic is: why they run a promotion? Because they have too much stock. why they have too much stock? Because it is hard to sell, if it is hard to see, why should I shock up? Of course this doesn't apply to all the cases, but at least apply to most of the cases.

i don't mean to hijack this threat but i also was considering the w3j for school...is it really small enough to fit on a desk nicely? i think 13.3'' is the sweet spot but i this the w3j is a better laptop than the w7j

maybe the new R1F tablet will be for me... =)
