    Love it, first of all.

My keyboard randomly types i for no reason. I'll be in the middle of typing a sentence and it will type an i.

Even if I'm just sitting there, it will type an i. <---It just did it right there. >_>

Also, what do you guys run Fallout 3 on?

The only speaker that works on my laptop is the top left one...shouldn't there be more working?

Lastly, Age of Empires 2 lags a TON. Not only do my friends see a 1500+ latency in a LAN game MENU...

but the sound is all glitchy in the game. I

I've tried to run in compatibility mode too.

I'm running Vista 32 bit Ultimate. I know these are unrelated to 32/64 bit, because I had the same problems when this laptop shipped with 64 bit. I just prefer 32.

    Thanks. -Zonoko-

    Few things...

#1: What bios are you on?
#2: Yes should be two speakers working, left and right... Make sure maybe the right sdie is not turned down in the sound manager.
#3: The extra i may happen if your on newer drivers and bios and enabled the multi-key combo, which is Fn g... It can cause some strange things. If its on and you know what I am talking about turn it off with Fn G and see if the typing is fixed.
#4: For the lag, it could be a lot of things... In direct console put it on power saver for the lights. If thats not it and your not on latest bios and drivers, update them...

In the end none of this may matter if you have a bad speaker, you may end up exchanging the notebook for this so I would look into that first... When the PC boots, do you hear the explosion on both sides?

For number one, I just updated to BIOS 209 earlier today.

For two, I restarted and I'm pretty sure the speaker is dead. It never came out of the right...even on the explosion. But I don't know how to check the "Sound Manager"...unless you mean the normal windows sound thing. >_>

When I did Fn+G, it did nothing on my desktop...when I tried it while typing, it started moving my cursor line thing over to the left reaaally fast. It's still doing the i thing.

I turned off the lights, but Age of Empires is still having the problem.

    I don't think I'll return it for one broken speaker...I'm a gamer, I have nice headphones. :p

    Thanks for your help man.

You dont have to return it per say but because its new you can just exchange it for another one. Its DOA... Even if you use headphones why pay for something thats not as it should?

As for the FN G thing, that means you dont have all the new drivers and stuff... You need to download and install all the latest ATK drivers... I think their is a total of 4 of them... Also install the latest DirectConsole as it was redone for the new bios...

These may solve your other problems and just leave you down to the speaker issue. Or you can just exchange it and the replacement may work fine out of box. :p

I wouldnt bother with the windows sound manager if the explosion does not play from one side than the speaker is dead.

Yup. Problem is I got it from NewEgg...and while I love them, they take FOREVER to replace things. I'm not going without my new laptop for two months. I can deal with the speaker.

I'll look for the ATK drivers as well as the new direct console thing.

It depends how long it's been. I think with newegg you have 15 days for an exchange from the date of purchase. I'm not positive, you wanna check that.

If it's past 15 days, if you've registered for your ASUS warranty, you should be able to get an exchange done in a few days or a week. They send a box to you usually by the next day in most of the USA via UPS. Then you just are waiting for shipping and them to turn around a replacement. If it's past 30 days since purchase, I think then you get into warranty REPAIR instead. It could be 60 days I'm not exactly sure.

If its under 30 days old, as mine was that I just exchanged I had a brand new notebook in less than a week... They overnighted my notebook to them, than the next day they called me to talk about the issue. The following day they said they shipped a brand new one...

If you do with Newegg, they will also give you a brand new one. DOA calls for a new item, not repair if under 30 days old. If newegg policay is only 15 days Asus will replace it than... Eitherway you mine as well do it. You never know you may regret it down the road. I would say 2 weeks would be worst case and thats pushing it.... Newegg may just tell you to order a new one and they will refund you when they get that one.. In that case no down time.

So I've found out what it is. The i key is more sensitive than a woman with PMS. I literally can place my finger on top of the i key (without pressing it down AT ALL) and it will produce an I. Father and I had a discussion as to whether or not ASUS screwed up the keyboard, or if it was the keyboard manufacturer's problem.

Nevertheless, my new Asus g50vt-x2 has a speaker broken and a broken keyboard. It was riddled with adware, though I fixed it, the keyboard lag annoyed the out of me, and the Asus website is FUBAR.

Is this a rare case? Am I just unlucky? Should I go for a Gateway if I can get a refund from Newegg? (5 days until 30 days from purchase - NewEgg's return policy is 30 days)

Ugh. I need advice. Help me oh wise interweb geniuses!

It does sound like an unusual case. Jonha, isn't ASUS usually reliable?

Anyway, I was thinking if NewEgg refunds me I might go for the p-7801u 17 Incher from Gateway...looks pretty good. A bit more expensive, worse processor by a bit but a MASSIVELY better graphics card. Don't know if I like the 9 pounds though.

I do like this laptop though...do you guys think I should get a replacement or go for the Gateway? Heading to college next year, so I MIGHT be taking it to class depending on what I take.

Newegg has a no refund policy on laptops. The best you can get is a replacement unit. Usually happens in very little time however.

Asus is reliable, but no company has full perfect products haha. I am a notebook reseller and believe me every single brand has its problems  so don't be discouraged. I recommend you to phone asus and RMA for DOA, they should replace it or at least fix the issues fast.

You can go if you want for the Gateway, but I don't understand what you mean about the better videocard, it is just marginally better. (it is actually the same card but slighltly higher clocks) there is no much difference betwen 9800 GTS and GS. If it were the GT or GTX then it would be much better ;)

Anyways, don't let the issues remain unfixed. It sucks that you got a bad unit but well it is not the first time this kind of thing has happened before. I have had some M70 DOA with the screen broken, and got replaced in 1 day.

Anyways, get your computer fixed and enjoy it!

I doubt newegg will give money back, but maybe exchange.

As for your issues. Keyboard lag is normal and uninstall touchpad drivers for a workaround until the fools fix it right.

For the i key if thats indeed your issues thats no problem... Asus WILL send you just a new keyboard to swap yourself if you call them... But I myself would rather exchange it and have the working speaker. Even though you dont use it, one day you may or one day you may want to sell it or trade it and that will cost you on its value...

Bottom line, the keyboard i is self fixable free, the speaker is a do it now or you will end up sending it to Asus latter, or worse never getting fixed... But otherwise they are great notebooks!

I sent it back to NewEgg for a replacement. Although I will miss the LAN party. (Crap)

But yeah, I could have gotten a refund as it was DOA and I called within the first 30 days. But it would have cost 15%, and the gateway was 100$ more.

When I looked up the gateway recently, I found that the card was barely better at all, as you say, ryzeki. I hope the new one won't have any defects. I'll fix the keyboard lag, probably install Vista 32 bit, and have me some good Left 4 Dead fun. ;)

    Thanks all for your help!

They are. My company usually order parts from them and if any part is defective, we just call and get a rma nxt day shipping. Hope this helps.
