Hello Asus community,
I got my g50-a2 in the mail on Tuesday, and its been nothing short of awesome. My only gripe with it is the orange trim, which I'm sure some users can agree on.
My buddy is does professional paint jobs for cars and he said repainting the trim would be easy. Do you think this would void my warranty with Asus?
Thanks in advance.

Your best bet would be to call and ask an ASUS support representative.
-
what colour would u do?
-
A black glossy finish or a dark shade of gray.
I'm awaiting on a response from Asus in reguards to the matter: their notebook support number is closed until Tuesday so I used the contact form on their website.
I'll post the outcome when I receive it. Most likely it'll be the obvious "yes, this will void your notebook" but it doesn't hurt to try. -

Yes, this will void your notebook.
Thats why in the painting section of the forums, its recommended you not do it till your warranty is over. Asus has a 2 year warranty so you have to wait a long time -
If you paint the orange ones with backlights though, wouldnt that be a hinder? Cos you know, I'd rather keep the orange trims all through out rather than have the ones without backlights go glossy black while the ones with backlights remain the same.
Unless you dont really care about the backlights, lol -

I was lead to think that what he meant by orange trim are the orange parts of the laptop, I guess Im wrong? lol

The orange trim is the orange part of the body, it looks very easy to paint, if you take the time to mask property you should not even need to disassemble the notebook, and its not near any of the LED's. Still it will void your warranty.
I like the baby blue that the new G70 uses that looks great, the Orange is not too bad tho I have gotten used to it on mine and it makes it stand out against other notebooks. This thing is a finger print magnet already the orange is about the only part on it that they do not show, if you go gloss black you would have to use gloves to type
If I was going to paint mine tho.. I think one of these
> Chrome
> Grey
> Maybe black but unless I can get it to match the other black perfectly it would look bad
> Cherry Red -
Boredom:
I think if the black was done right it'd look really good. -

Yeah out of those Id pick black because it fits well and eliminates the "OMG Look at ME!" feel
The other colors while not quite a striking still stand out from across a room. -

I did my own little photoshop and after messing around I figured the best color is not a color at all but a material.
Check out how good it looks with carbon fiber:
Now the great thing about this is that you can get a sticker like fake carbon fiber material to look like this and apply it over the paint. Its non destructive and so you can just remove it if you ever had any issues that called for warranty service. -
You hit the nail on the head. Where can we get this material?

O dam now I want a G50v.

There are several companies that sell it.
Now that I think about it, you may not even have to take it off for warranty as putting stickers or protective covers on the notebook is not against warranty terms. I pointed Ken to the thread, maybe he can clear up that little fine print and tell us if its ok.
I mean the only reason painting breaks warranty probably is because in most cases it requires disassembly and they do not want you to break your notebook, or because I would assume if you sent it in for a problem they cant fix they may re-use part of it as a refurbished unit and if its painted they cant use the chassis. -
Take a look at this: http://www.mnpctech.com/CarbonFiber.html
might be worth trying ;P -

I would try doing this in sections as the entire laptop in just one piece would be hard as heck. Taking out the keyboard and stuff so you can just tuck the material around the edges would really make those parts seamless and easier but not sure how hard it is to take the G50V apart. -

Yep thats why in every one of my post you saw me say it needs to be removable
