Hello everybody. Ive been patrolling these boards for awhile now and finally signed up. Will be buying a notebook in the near future; had my heart and soul set on the new ferrari 5005 but yesterday i came across the W3J which i think i like even more :D

So my question, and apologies if its a silly one but i cant really find an answer...Is the whole frame of the notebook made of metal or is it just the screen? I really like the idea of a notebook being firmly shrouded in metal as opposed to plastic.

    Thankyou for any help!

Just the lid of the screen. The rest is some type of plastic. Same with the v6j but the v6j has matalic top cover too. The bottom will usually be plastic on most laptops. Just imagine how much better metal conducts heat then plastic

Ok thankyou. I guess a full metal notebook would end up a bit toasty on the lap. Might be pleasant if i lived in an igloo...but i dont.

    Thankyou for your reply.

Dell actually made or still makes all alum notebooks. I had a 12" i got for a friend. Thought it was great, Not much heat but it was ultra low voltage pentium m. Tho the hinges went on it after only a half year of use

Maybe I am misunderstanding, but the V6j has a Magnesium Alloy Lid and Aluminum on the inside, the bottom is plastic (I am pretty sure). The Aluminum gets warm, but thats just a fact of life.

Its metal all over but the bottom thats for sure. The top cover gets pretty warm. The lid doesnt but there is no heat under the lid. Whatever it is made out of it is one sexy well designed notebook. Wont wind one nicer in the same class probably becuase its 15.1". Dunno why they dont make one like it that is mainstream like 15.4" or 14"

well here in europe the w1j has a carbon fibre lid, brushed aluminium palmrest, 15.4 inch Wsxga screen, built in digital tuner, x1600 ddr3 graphics and looks attractive. seems like a pretty appealing laptop to me. :)

It is, but its as heavy and expensive as the larger W2j - which is why it is not easily avaliable to alot of places.

Nonetheless, for a mobile but small laptop with tons of features and eyecandy, you can't beat it :)

Well i mean all notebooks get toasty on the bottom. I never had a chance to try an all aluminum notebook (xept a 12" dell long ago) to see how much toastier it gets but i presume aluminum conducts heat better then plastic. I think that is a fair guess.
