I had a chance today to pull one of these out and I must say...... it's a winner. The pearl W5a is nice..... and selling very well... but the black model sticks out a little less in the crowd and may be more popular in it's own right.

The biggest thing for me, isn't the black color...... with the black color comes a chanage in something else... the camera.

Instead of being a light nickel .. almost chrome on the white model.... it's a darker nickel and looks dark grey next to the black lid and bezel.. So basically, it blends in better both when the notebook is closed and when it's opened.

Asus said these were "limited" and the funny thing is, some of their pacakages were mismarked.... so it's even more limited than they thought. Some boxed marked for the black model came here and ended up being white. But some are in and more are coming.

    Thanks,
    Justin

Funny, I like the white one cause it is kind of different from all the dark notebooks out there. Like Apple's. Making a "limited edition" black one doesn't make sense to me.

Besides, isn't black the color that has been out for the W5a in Europe for months?

    Cert,

It really doesn't matter..... what you're saying isn't stupid by any means, but you're not grasping the picture.

The black model was never supposed to come here. Plenty of people wanted it. It was the same thing with the pearl and black S5's..... there is a market for both.

The W5 has been here for months now too, but like I said, for now.... you CAN get a black one if you want, but it's "limited"... it's not going to be offered long.

I like the pearl color myself, but I actually perfer it on my white m5 rather than the w5...... just my opinion. I think the overall notebook looks better in black becasue it hides the camera a bit better and well... I only have a need for one little white notebook.... but the W5 is much more of a complete system with all of it's little goodies... It's just sort of a PBA to let people know there are some available. There were a lot of disappointed people when they found out originally that black wouldn't come here at all.

    Thanks,
    Justin

Yeah that's it...... the camera actually doesn't contrast as much as it LOOKS like it does in that picture... it's more of a gunmetal grey.

I see what you mean... I also like most notebooks in black. The pearl W5a was refreshing because you don't see a lot of pc based notebooks in that color.

No matter how you look at it... the black W5a is a good thing. It is yet another option for consumers which is always good. I just thought it was kind of stupid making a black limited edt. since so many other notebooks are black. And the W5a looks cool and different in white.

Well it's limited because Taiwan sent a batch of black ones and they weren't supposed to. It's not like a "special" thing... but rather a limited time offer type thing... becasue once they're gone I don't think they are going to order them again. Asus wants the ensemble line to be "refreshing" and although a lot of people love the W5 and do want it in black, the white model is the "different" one...... and Asus would basically rather be different than just ho hum...

The thing is, there are a lot of professionals who prefered the black S5 over the white one and the whole time we had the black and white model, the white one sold 5 times more than the black one. As soon as the black model was gone and Asus stopped bringing them in.... you'd swear everyone just found out about them becasue the scales switched and now 5x more people were requesting it in black.... and I'm talking within a week or two after they were all gone. So with the W5 it wasn't supposed to come over in black and that threw some people off... now it's here for a little bit and it's just another option.

    Thanks,
    Justin

The answer to that is People always want what they can't have. Anyways, If you get one of the black W5a's...you're practically going to be very unique in North America, because not many other's anywhere will have that exact laptop in black...so even though it's black as many laptops are, It still makes your laptop quite different and unique. Statistically speaking, You're almost assured that nobody you run into anywhere in North America will have the exact same laptop as you! I'm a big fan of the black version. I love that uniform one dark colour look. I'd be in awe if the W3V looked like that! [8D]

Man, having an Asus laptop is almost a sure bet you won't run into someone else with one..... having a "limited edition" Asus model almost like saying you're not going to run into anyone in the same state that has one...

Honestly.. without being sexist or making a guy feel less manly.... the white W5/S5 have always been directed more towards women.... I'd say they are at least 3/4 of the buyers of them.... but it doesn't really make it "girlie" ... it's just a lot of woman can appreciate it more.
