Can somebody confirm the fan issue completely disappears with the following configuration:

    - BIOS 0210
    - ATK driver version 1043.2.15.48 (very latest version which seems to make the difference - this is the most important upgrade)
    - Windows XP SP2
    - SpeedswitchXP 1.4 in Dynamic Switching mode
    - AC power (not battery)

Please A2D notebook owners can you confirm this.

Come on guys, I don't have my notebook with me. Make an effort, we can probably sort this story out for good!

bhugemot, Hyde, peacerist, Yoram, anybody wants to try this?

Nah. That's not a solution. It is a workaround at best, and one more cumbersome than the one I'm currently happy with. I'll try the new ATK driver and disable RMClock one of these days, though, and see if it makes a difference.

The newest ATK0100 driver version 1043.2.15.48 is supposed to make the difference, I've just had the tech support on the phone. Other than that they talked about BIOS 0210 too.

I would try first with the newest ATK 0100 as it is pretty easy to install.

Do you mind giving this a try today? I have just asked the tech support to keep my notebook one more day.

If you could do that, that would be great, bugmenot.

That's not a solution? I think you are joking man...
Using RMClock is nothing but a workaround, whereas upgrading the driver does solve the problem in due form.
That said, I am asking you to test the driver for me as I don't have my notebook. If you see a problem with the new driver (and BIOS) then I will notify the tech support.
If you do care about the fan problem, you will try the new driver, there is no doubt. Your RMClock hack is pretty poor IMHO...

Not at all. If it works with updated driver along with the latest BIOS that's fine, but all the other things you listed are way too restrictive. It should work with any of Windows' standard power-schemes, regardless of OS version, power source, and without any third party software.

Used it like that for about two or three hours today without a fan-jam. Promising but not conclusive.

Alright, if you prefer, I just want to try with the latest version of ATK 0100, and preferably with BIOS 0210. The CPU-frequency changing policy does not interest me, be it through the built-in Windows XP "Laptop mode", or SpeedswitchXP. I don't really care.
Preferably NOT Power4Gear as this software does not seem to reduce greatly the CPU speed when the system is nearly idle (you can hear that easily because the fan stops for 40 or 50 seconds, spins for 10, starts again - with the built-in XP laptop power management mode or speedswitchxp, which both decrease the frequency to 400 Mhz, the time where no cooling is required is longer).

That's how I was running it: The Laptop/Portable power profile, without Power4Gear. It was a combination of battery and AC but nothing really taxing.

A little while ago HControl.exe locked up, causing 100% CPU use, when adjusting the volume, though. Haven't seen that happen before on previous drivers. If it does that again I'll revert back to the configuration that was working fine for me.

(Yes, using RMClock should be considered a 'hack', but it has, as far as I'm concerned, all upsides and no downsides. I agree that it really shouldn't be necessary, but I just can't be bothered to spend any more time on diagnosing this issue when I have a workaround that is to my satisfaction.)

Let's hope HControl.exe locking up is just a bad coincidence. Let us know how it goes with the new drivers.

Alright, having not heard from you I assume everything's running fine with the new drivers? (no news.... good news?)

Sorry guys, I have some bad news - with configuration BIOS 0210 and ATK driver version 1043.2.15.48, XP(SP2), CrystalCPUID, AC power, I've notice same problems as before. After the standby mode, computer sometimes (not always) locks itself, not turning fan off. So, same problem as before - nothing changed with this ATK drivers :(

I had the notebook back only three days ago, I have been using it only two days and the fan problem is still there...

Nothing solves the problem, absolutely nothing, from the very beginning. The repair shop tried the notebook for a couple hours, didn't experience the issue, and that's it.

I gave the notebook for repair more than 4 weeks ago... I really feel seriously scr*wed over...

    Hi folks,

Sorry to confirm what fusio experienced and my apologies to Escape707 for my late response, I was busy with school.

I've been using new bios 210 and ATK driver version 1043.2.15.48 for about 2 months. Time to time (not everyday) I get fan not stopping problem (when it should). When problem occurs I run speedfan to reset MAX6657 parameters so that sensor stops the fan (no need to go standby which is discussed in previous threads in this forum) then everything works fine until the issue arises again which usually takes a couple of days or so. So far, I got better control over cpu and fan issue using CrystalCPUID compared to PowerGear. As Hyde has indicated before I think issue is still software/driver related.

Altough it has a noisy fan (under control) and a bit weak speakers when volume is increased, I like this Asus A2d notebook.

    So far, so good... :noisyfan:
